Urf. I'm back. Flight was fine and the house feels very empty. Work is better than expected considering how long I was away (and the number of emails to contend with!), but rather depressing after two weeks of holiday.

And I'm missing my aunt and Canada dreadfully.

After unpacking, shopping, washing clothes and having a nap yesterday, I watched the first three episodes of Robin Hood. It's very daft, overblown and silly. I'm liking it very much :-)

I was also able to watch Torchwood last night to which my only current thought it SQUEE! Hopefully more coherent thoughts will be appearing later.

I gave up on Robin Hood, two thirds of the way through episode 2

I think watching the first three episodes as a marathon while still dopey from flying helped :-) But I did enjoyed it because it's fairly daft but fun.

I liked episode 2 of Torchwood better than 1

Same here, and I think for the same reasons.

Doctor Who bits felt kind of shoehorned in

Hmm, it didn't to me. But I was half expecting there to be more overt references so the ones that were in there felt more natural than I'd expected.

But could he be anything but Captain Jack? And in my mind, it's because he was a Time Agent. He just hasn't got used to not being a Captain :-)

It probably was and I think it was put in for the reasons that you said above. I read a review where someone was comparing these two episodes with Angel - and the reasoning behind the way it was done - and I think there is a point. They needed to state very early on that this is definitely not Doctor Who, that we shouldn't expect Doctor Who and need to mentally change gears for this. In that sense, it worked well.
I enjoyed the episode (and find it rather irritating that concerned parents are complaining after letting their young children watch it...) a lot, but I'm going to be really interested by what the trailers showed for next week's episode.

I felt sorry for the alien

I didn't. It stated that it liked the orgasmic energy best, which I took as saying that it could feed on other energy and just got greedy. Possibly addicted, but in the end it wasn't a survival thing, it was a choice thing. So I had no problems with the callous killing thing :-)

Exactly! Although some of my Canadian relatives were amazed to learn that our police don't carry guns as standard, so if any of those complainers are American then they can be excused :-)

Well, yes, and it wouldn't be the same if he wasn't, but technically speaking, he isn't really as far as the 21st century is concerned.

They only have themselves to blame for letting them watch something after the watershed. That's what it's there for.

Indeed. Parents apparently don't use this kind of logic, though, when it comes to kids. They saw the words Doctor Who and ignored all other indicators.
