Snowses!!

It's snowing! It started a couple of hours ago (when I was on the motorway on the way to work) and it's being really determined right now. I'll be keeping an eye on it to see whether I can bunk off early today :-) Apart from anything else, I do not want to be driving in the dark if it's still snowing heavily.

I managed to seize up completely on the drive home yesterday, very painful, but I've decided to be sensible today. I have painkillers. Many painkillers. And I will be dosing myself thoroughly before getting into the car to hopefully prevent the extremes of ickiness that I had yesterday.

I'm hungry right now. Very, very hungry. And procrastinating on the work front. Although I'm mostly through the extra work that I'm doing to cover for a colleague. Go me :-) But still procrastinating on doing my own work because I know that I've got to redo a section in order to make it more flexible and useful and I'm not entirely convinced whether it will work. Especially as the data warehouse has slowed down to an insane level of slowness.

I did not see Atlantis last night, so no review. It is recorded so hopefully I'll be seeing it tonight or tomorrow. Grr, fathers who want to watch other TV things.

Can you tell that I'm attempting to put off the actual work portion of my day? Maybe I could browse around for laptops that I can't buy yet, but really want to :-) Or try to find funny, silly things to amuse myself.

Is it time to go home yet?

It might look pretty but it's very cold and wet to walk in. I'm really hoping it's stopped by the time I have to go back out in the dark (and therefore even colder) tonight for guitar.

SGA does repeat on Friday, and I think Sunday. So you haven't got it taped, there is that.

I ...liked some bits of it. But honestly, I found it a bit strange, going off a tangent from the series. But I don't really think this season is going anywhere anyway.

There are only three episodes to go.

So, I haven't been spoilt for the finale (apart from the stuff discussed at the con), so whatever the big finale is, it's just going to come up as a surprise in the last episode, or last few episodes.

I don't know if that will work. It's like, in some ways this series has been a unending list of standalone episodes, with thrown in stuff now and again for continuity, I don't see how it links together at all.

I think, after I see the next few episodes, I'll have a clearer idea of how I feel. But I'll still be watching Season 3, because, I'm not hooked.

Because I am hooked - blah.

Does it need to be building up to something? I'm quite happy just watching and seeing what they're up to this week.

I won't spoil the next three (four) episodes, but the finale does use some stuff from a couple of episodes.

It was intentionally a similar colour to Sam's shirt, but looks bluer on my computer.

Now I come to look at it on my computer it does look kind of purple. I swear it was blue at the time.

Well, it is my preferred style of television, and what I've been used to for the shows I've been watching for the last....decade.

So, it doesn't have to have it (because heh, I'm not TPTB, they can do whatever they want), but as a rule, if the show doesn't have an overall arc, or direction, I get annoyed, frustrated and very bored. I like standalone episodes, if they are an exception, not the rule.

No serious spoilers...

I've been enjoying SGA more than SG-1 for much of this season. Take this week:

S
P
O
I
L
E
R

S
P
A
C
E

Just in case...

The Scourge - unimaginative straight line plot with inconsistencies in science/logic/common sense. There was no real suspense or tension, though reasonably well scripted for M&M, as you knew they'd pull another 'deus ex machina' ending.

On the plus side, they let Sam have her spine back for this ep. and actually behave like an officer. 8-)

Coup d'Etat - much more complex plot and you were never quite certain who was fooling whom especially with the volte-face at the end. Enjoyed it. 8-)

Am very much warmed to SGA now, even Caldwell now I know why he was being such an obnoxious and obstructive arsehole in the earlier eps. <3 Ronon Dex. 8-)

I'm one of those rare people who likes SGA but was never a fan of the original series, I've seen, maybe 9 or 10 odd episodes in all of the original, and not in order.

So yeah, obviously much pefer Atlantis. What I liked about the first season was it's direction. I feel like the series has lost it a bit in the second, and I'm not sure where it's going, what do the writers want with the SGA team, what is their plans for Atlantis, is it defence, is it offence, do they want a war?

How are they going to deal with the locals of the Pegasus system, is this a form of imperialism?

I'm not convinced the writer know what they are doing, and that's why I've found this series a little ...strange.

Coup d'Etat made me realise how much I missed the Genii, and their presence in the first series.

This is entirely unrelated, but a friend of mine is having a discussion about Life on Mars not entirely unlike the one we had at the weekend at http://watervole.livejournal.com/146679.html

I reckon there will be a resolution of sorts - the trailer made it look like we're going to see more about Sam's dad and the running through the forest thing. But given they were hoping to go for two or three series at the start I wouldn't have thought they'd give it all to us in the first.

The snow stuff falling here was very pretty while it lasted but then it turned to rain and the forecast is for it to be icy tomorrow morning.

Seizing up on the drive home last night does not sound good :(
I've only seized up (the so sounds like an old motor or something) overnight and that is bad enough - at least it's in the privacy of my own bedroom.

It must be the cover for colleague season. I'm currently covering for my (non existent) line manager (old one has moved to new job, new one arrives on 1st March) and also partly covering for my finance colleague who is on leave until 1st March. I'm sure there was some of my own work I should have been doing today but by the time I'd done work that should of been their's it was time to brave the elements and buses to come home.
