SJA: The Wedding of Sarah Jane
Oct. 31st, 2009 08:54 pmI haven't read any other reactions, but I loved this. Although it has reminded me of how much I miss Doctor Who and how long the next two weeks are going to be!
So, onto the spoiler-ific review.
The only complaint I have should probably be stated up front, and that is that I find it a little unrealistic that Sarah Jane would fall in love and agree to marry someone in just a few weeks. She's so cautious that it doesn't quite work for me.
With so many good things about this episode, that's a pretty minor complaint!
K-9 and Mr Smith were too funny :-D
I loved having the Doctor in it. The hero worship from Luke, Clyde and Rani, brought up on the tales of Sarah Jane's life with him, was just right and I loved their wonder and joy at being allowed to explore the TARDIS. At the same time, I'm glad that the resolution to all this was very much from Sarah Jane rather than a deus ex machine from the Doctor. We need that confirmation that our gang can solve their problems on their own, with the Doctor giving them a few pointers but not taking away their victory.
The wedding dress was gorgeous :-)
Clyde gets better every week. I adore him. He's maturing into his role as protector and action man well and it's great to see that he's learning as he goes - identifying the spacial loop made me grin so much. If the Doctor decides to take any of them travelling, I'm willing to bet that it would be Clyde. After he had Luke have caused chaos and had lots of hijinks at university, obviously.
OMG, I feel a plot bunny nibbling...
Although Peter's sacrifice was sad and beautifully done, the moment that brought a lump to my throat was seeing Sarah Jane's face when she turned to face the wedding guests. The silent grief was just perfect.
After the Trickster's little hints and the Doctor's dark look when Sarah Jane asked whether she'd see him again, I have the feeling that RTD is going to break my heart at Christmas. Bastard.
Anyway, this was another solid, brilliant episode in SJA's best season yet. And next week looks fabulous! I'm trying to ignore the fact that getting a whole story each week means that I probably only have another two weeks of SJA love.

Date: 2009-11-01 09:37 am (UTC)I found that a major complaint that spoiled the story for me (along with rather a lot of other things).
But there are three weeks to go - there are six episodes this series, same as last. We just get one a week rather than one a fortnight.

Date: 2009-11-01 10:08 pm (UTC)See, I remembered S1 only having five stories so I assumed it was the same for this season. You've made me happy to know that it's not the case :-)
