Whatever has gone wrong with my shoulder obviously needs looking at by a doctor, I admit it. The dratted thing went out again yesterday morning at around 10.45am (I know because that's when I left for church and it went from fine to ouch in the space of ten seconds) and it's still very painful today. I'm managing it better this time - mobilisation and heat packs - so it's not yet reached crippling stage, but it's bloody painful and I definitely cannot drive now.
Bugger.
I'm also tired because there was no comfortable position to sleep in last night and therefore I haven't had much sleep. As soon as the office opens, I'm calling to get an appointment with my doctor. I'll work out how to get there when I have an appointment. She'll probably tell me to see my specialist, but at least I'll know whether it's worth bothering the specialist then and she might be able to give me something to take the edge off and get some sleep when it goes out.
Hey, ho, live is always interesting with hypermobility!
The weekend was productive and fun, despite not getting to see my aunt on Saturday. The stuffed mushrooms need some experimentation to get them right, but I have a mushroom left over so I think that will be Wednesday's supper :-) I think a bit less cooking time and a bit more stilton might be the way to go. Adding a bit of sour cream to the juices that cook out an drizzling that over the mushrooms is definitely a fine plan. Recipe will be posted when I've got it right :-)
I got 2,000 words done on my Tardis Big Bang fic, which makes me very happy, and there was also some rather excellent weekend TV.
I'm very much enjoying the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. I could listen to Jill Scott talk for hours :-) It's lovely gentle Sunday night viewing and the glimpse of an African nation that isn't in the midst of war, famine and horror is lovely.
Robin Hood impressed me much more this week :-) Tuck is still annoying, but he was on-screen less so that's fine. And thankfully my first impression of Kate didn't play out. She has the potential to be a very interesting character if she's done right, although could someone please get her a better hair style? That braid across the front annoyed me all night.
Yeah, I'm shallow.
Robin is still surprising me by looking like a grown-up and being actually fairly convincing as angsty and tortured.
The best bit of the entire episode? The bit that had me laughing out loud? Hooting for joy?
Robin and Finn hang-gliding down from battlements :-)
I love my shiny silly show :-)
Also, there was Guy. The hair looked much less froofy this time, he's getting the hang of angsty and tortured and he's finally seen just how devious and evil the Sherrif is :-) Vengeance! Vengeance will be his!
Maybe we'll get an episode where Robin and Guy have to team up and defeat the Sherrif, sniping and being angry yet reluctantly doing the "the enemy of my enemy" thing. That could be filled with all kinds of fun and insanity :-)
I'm guessing that we'll have at least one more Kate-centric episode to establish her, which is fine, although I am hoping that we get good episodes for other characters later. Can John please get a good plot of his own? And Much needs an episode that's all about him and isn't a comedy episode, because we know very little about him apart from the fact that he's the comic relief.
Anyway, big improvement from last week and long may this continue :-)

Date: 2009-04-06 11:44 am (UTC)Robin Hood. I am reserving judgement on Kate until I see more of her. Not liking her at the moment, but at least she isn't a Marion clone. Lose the braid definately as it is too modern.
The paracute had me laughing because it is just ridiculous! Does Robin think he is MacGyver? I think I'd forgotton just how silly Robin Hood was, so I'm going to stop thinking about it too much.
Enjoying No.1 Ladies Detective Agency. Haven't read the books, but Mother tells me they get a bit samey after a while.

Date: 2009-04-06 11:51 am (UTC)I think that Kate has a lot of potential and it will be interesting to see what they do with her. The braid is just irritating, though.
As for modern...anachronisms never have mattered much on RH :-)
Robin Hood really is silly and it's those parachute moments that keep me watching :-D Not much makes me laugh out loud, but RH does it regularly.
I can imagine that the books do get rather samey after a while, but I'd like to get hold of the first couple just to see what they're like. It's a nice, gentle Sunday-night show and I'm not even missing Larkrise too much while I've got it.

Date: 2009-04-06 12:12 pm (UTC)*cuddles gently over the shoulder issues*
I pulled something in my back about two weeks ago, and it hasn't set itself right yet, possibly for the same "can't find a comfortable position to sleep in" issue. I find that when that happens my aches and pains get worse, and I imagine you have the same problem.

Date: 2009-04-06 12:42 pm (UTC)I find that when one joint goes, it puts pressure on other things and that causes more issues so I try hard not to move awkwardly even though it hurts a lot to move normally. Hence I use a cane when a hip goes because otherwise I'm walking unevenly and my back and other leg get really sore.
This shoulder gets worse when I don't move it and that's making sleep even more difficult, because I'll lie in one position for a while and then it's agony when I move. Not sleeping does not help with one's pain, does it?

Date: 2009-04-06 12:50 pm (UTC)I'll occasionally run into issues with trapped nerves, and then the nerve will get so inflamed that anything I do just makes it worse. The best cure I've found for that is a sedative and normal sleep.
But your joint issues are much worse.
Yeah. It's been so hot in my apartment that when I fall asleep, I sleep like the dead and wake up all cramped and achy.
I am booking for Redemption this morning, because if I leave it, I'll forget and it will cost me £10 more. I'm booking a single for the moment, unless you and Nic want to split a quad.

Date: 2009-04-06 01:26 pm (UTC)At the moment I'm suspecting that it's a slipped shoulder blade trapping a nerve and possibly wrenching muscles, with the debate being what has caused it. There's a strong suspicion in my mind that it could be the scoliosis that is apparently more noticeable than it was two years ago. I'll mention it to the doc when I see her on Thursday - the first appointment I could get - and I suspect that she'll be sending me off to my specialist pronto. Right now, I'd like the reassurance that I need to see the specialist and something to take the edge off so that I can sleep and breathe comfortably when it pops out.
This might also be when I get a note from her to get an ergonomic assessment done at work. Kill two birds with one stone :-)
I'm booking for Red at the weekend so that I get the lower rate. Forget debating about whether I go - I was going by the time I spent nine hours in the bar at Red '09. I was in denial :-) We can talk to Nic about sleeping arrangements when we're all booked.
I may be co-opting you to help out with knitting workshops :-)

Date: 2009-04-06 02:27 pm (UTC)Ouch. My shoulder is where my trapped nerve issues usually happen. I trust your doctor will see the sense of a specialist/painkillers.
An ergonomic assessment would be good too.
I've been in denial like that about things. But if I book now, I have to come back to England. :) This was how I got there the first time. Registering for a con is a good incentive.
Yes, we can talk over sleeping arrangements after. I just get obsessive about filling out forms. :/
Nic has said she might co-opt me for something else (LJ RP, perhaps). :)

Date: 2009-04-06 02:48 pm (UTC)I asked for the assessment two months ago but was told that I needed a note from my doctor or physio and I hate going to the doctor just to get a letter so I've, er, let that lapse. So now would be the time to get that moving again and hopefully getting my workstation set up correctly will help.
Well, it's definitely worth getting the cheap rate at Red if you know that you definitely want to go and that means signing up ASAP :-) So you're just being practical. I'm sure Nic signed up at the con - I was in denial and didn't, but I will be getting onto it at the weekend.
You're going to end up doing so many things because we're co-opting you :-)

Date: 2009-04-06 03:46 pm (UTC)I'm afraid if I leave it until after I get paid again, I won't remember to do it. So I shall do it today.
*is co-opted* Eeek. I probably haven't done any programming in over 10 years.

Date: 2009-04-06 01:40 pm (UTC)I have nothing to add 'cept I hope they don't bring Kate in TOO quickly. I like the idea of her begrudgingly assisting while calling them all 'fascists!' under her breath.
Maybe we'll get an episode where Robin and Guy have to team up and defeat the Sherrif, sniping and being angry yet reluctantly doing the "the enemy of my enemy" thing. That could be filled with all kinds of fun and insanity :-)
Buddy cop movie? I hope it's the last episode so Guy may utter the phrase "It was TWO DAYS before his retirement!"
I'm probably the only person in the world who thought 'take the babe and the feast table out; replace the Oirish prince with Allan and CUE SWORDFIGHT... GOD, that could've been S2! O.O' I'm definitely the only person in the world who saw the end and thought 'This is just like Sabrina... Only with more screaming and promises of certain death.'

This I really like. Really. Oh, it could be so much fun if she stays reluctant and bitchy for a while. Angst! Bitchiness! Grumbling while helping! Hating that she's enjoying helping! Oh, the potential is endless :-)
I hope it's the last episode so Guy may utter the phrase "It was TWO DAYS before his retirement!"
Oh, yes!!
Or make it the season finale two-parter for added sniping and UST and fun and insanity. OMG, it could be so much fun.
This is just like Sabrina... Only with more screaming and promises of certain death.
And this is where I go...Sabrina? Fink I missed that :-) Splanation please?
I just want to rewatch the screaming and vengeance promises and so on many, many times. Because last week Guy seemed to be waking up to the Sherrif's true nature and now he's *there*. Nobody is safe around the Sherrif, not even his loyal lieutenant. The bastard will use anyone to get something he wants and, Guy, that means you.
This show is shiny and silly and slashy and lovely.
Although I'm still a tiny bit more in love with Merlin, over all. Ahem.

Date: 2009-04-06 03:59 pm (UTC)I have a horrible feeling after next week she's going to be all "Oh, Robin you were SO RIGHT! *_*" which will make me fairly vomitous especially as I can see Robin going for Sister!Giz in a BIG way, and Much getting his heart crushed most-comedically as Kate & Allan do the "I DON'T like you!"/"I don't like you MORE!" dance of the seven romcoms. *cringe*
I much prefer my version of Kate already: bitchy, will NOT let it lie and founder member of the Campaign for Nottingham Disarmament (CND). Known to need dragging away from the city gates as she really WILL have someone's eye out with that placard.
Or make it the season finale two-parter for added sniping and UST and fun and insanity. OMG, it could be so much fun.
Oh yes! Oh yes PLEASE! I'd also like some Mark Mancina Con Air score with that and some carts blowing up!
And this is where I go...Sabrina? Fink I missed that :-) Splanation please?
Somewhere in my head the wires got a bit crossed and I am convinced that the Sheriff was Bogart to Guy's Hepburn and Guy just got sent away to finishing school. It was either that or admit I have a fic bunny from last year that starts in a similar vein. *looks shifty* Because... Because... Because Guy does occasionally need rescuing from slave traders? By Allan. For the horizontal gratitude. And great justice. I swear if Guy's half-naked when he's thrown to Toby Stephens I will SHREIK WITH GLEE! *____*

Seriously, between that and the swordfight and the 'like I care!' knife bit - I had my first proper Gizgasm of the season. Me LIKEY! He's woken up and started to smell the coffee. :-D I hope this means we get a few FULL eps of Guy giving off the same kind of 'just rode in from HELL!' attitude he had in S1ep1.
This show is shiny and silly and slashy and lovely.
It is, but could do with more Allan. More Allan half-naked, oiled and chained to something... Guy? :-D
I am firmly committed to The Guy of Gisborne Show. I still haven't forgotten the sore thumb I had from S1's mute button action! Though I don't deny Heroes is putting out some serious shiny.

Date: 2009-04-06 08:54 pm (UTC)We can hope they avoid this fate. I admit that they've never yet lived up to our hope, but they could do it this once, couldn't they?
Sheriff was Bogart to Guy's Hepburn and Guy just got sent away to finishing school
*light dawns* Aaah!
Because Guy does occasionally need rescuing from slave traders? By Allan. For the horizontal gratitude. And great justice.
As I'm writing Donna the Time Lord right now, I shall try not to look too longingly in your direction for fic :-)

Oh, god, yes. We seriously need that. And could someone hand him some eyeliner already? I want my S1/S2 eyeliner back! Those last five minutes were fabulous and I'm just hoping that next week we get the full, brilliant pay-off that will set up Guy getting the best plot-line eva :-) Because otherwise fic will have to be written to right the wrong and I don't have RH voices for it.
Heroes lost me and there was not enough shiny to keep me in. Sorry. Merlin, though...

Date: 2009-04-07 06:15 am (UTC)Well, they do have a track record for Nice Surprises: Guy generally, Guy tied to a tree, Much's obsession with baths, Allan stripped oiled & tied to a post, Allan going bad, Allan in black with teh buckles, Guy's S3-gear without the jacket, Allan in leather and Kate is a NICE GIRL! So they've never lived up to our hope, but they have exceeded our aspirations.
As I'm writing Donna the Time Lord right now, I shall try not to look too longingly in your direction for fic :-)
Well I have got trouble for the next few weeks. If I survive that without having to haul my stuff into storage I'll go through my plot bunnies, hope I get my mojo back and have a vote 'cause I had 3 going last year:
1) Skint Sheriff + slave traders = Guy spending a lot of time in chains.
2) Die Hard in Rochester Castle. (Marian-centric in that she spends 3 days NOT behaving like a berk)
3) Guy + Allan + Wales. Wherein there is random explosions, a lot of gold and a cathedral gets demolished.
Oh, god, yes. We seriously need that.
With bells on and more black eyeliner! (I suspect that the hair is obscuring the eyeliner, tbh)

Oh god I hope so. This is one occasion where I hope they deliver in BUCKETS!
Heroes has grabbed me, bundled me into its boot and taken me for a drive. Merlin didn't grab me like it should've.
