Monday morning boredom
Aug. 20th, 2007 10:25 amI'm trying out posting by email. Hmm.
Today I am bored. As usual, my reports are not running and I have very
little that I can do until I have some data to analyse. Woo.
For the first time since May, I was actually cold last night :-) Oddly
enough, this actually makes me very happy. Even the current dull, rainy,
cold weather makes me happy because it feels like autumn. I love autumn :-)
It's putting me in the mood to write stories with dull, rainy days where my
protagonists sit inside drinking tea in front of warm fires or huddle in
nice bookshops. I think that its possibly inspiring me towards tweeness.
Last night I actually sat down and worked on the rug that I'm making while
listening to a Pottercast. It was very nice although I kept reflecting that
it was possibly a bit too story-bookish. Particularly after I've just
finished reading two Chalet School books in a row (Jo to the Rescue and
Bride Leads the Chalet School, for the interested) and seem to be in an
old-fashioned mood.
I currently have a nice cup of tea, a drafty office (the plants on the
window sill are wafting gently in the breeze) and some cookies. Not quite a
warm room with a fire, but almost as good.
There is still no access to LJ from work, so I shall reply to comments
tonight. I think that this definitely qualifies as babble. I shall return to
waiting for reports and writing snippets of comfort stories.

Date: 2007-08-21 06:12 pm (UTC)My local second hand bookshop got a box of old hardback Chalet School books a few months ago, just in time for me to find it. The lovely ladies know that I'm collecting, so they very kindly let me buy them up in instalments - Bride followed me home a couple of weekends ago. It's a good one if you can get hold of it, even if it is rather Joey-lite!

Date: 2007-08-24 04:42 am (UTC)Anyway, yes we do have all sort of things in common, did you used to post on the packlist?, so I'm glad you friended me.
I discovered Chalet school books in my school library, and even inherited two of my mother's. I used to buy them in second hand shops, and then got a boost when I bought a box that were advertised in an exchange newspaper. These days I mostly buy them through Trade Me (NZ's answer to ebay), but I want the same hard to find titles as everyone else. Every now and then I cave and fork out for a GGBP one. I got Tom Tackles the Chalet School that way ;-D
If you can find them you might like Claire Mallory's Merry books - a NZ school story writer of the same vintage.

Date: 2007-08-24 06:45 pm (UTC)When I set up my LT account, I knew that various friends and family who don't know about my fannish pursuits would want the address (so they don't accidentally duplicate books for birthdays and Christmases and whatnot) so I set it up under archerygirl. It's a neutral name that can't be connected to my fannish name. It does confuse people sometimes, though :-)
I did post on the packlist at one time a few years ago. Unfortunately I then got snowed under with work, college and writing and I didn't have time to keep up with it any more. I am still on the Missyfic list, though, so that I can get the latest instalments of Dar and Kerry stories :-)
I found the Chalet School books through a friend when I was much younger, but I borrowed from her rather than buying my own - silly me. I found The School at the Chalet again a few years ago at a second hand bookshop and got sucked into collecting everything that I can find. I keep getting surprised by how much I'm enjoying them now that I'm an adult. I suspect that I'm reading them for different things now, but somehow they haven't lost their appeal for me. I may have to give in and get the GGBP copies of the ones that I'm really struggling with - such as Tom! She's a character that has always fascinated me but I know that it's a rare one to get, darnit.
Thank you for the rec - I've made a note to look out for those ones :-D
