[livejournal.com profile] destina is watching B5 for the first time and I envy her. Reading her entries is making me all nostalgic for the days of getting to watch it on Sunday evening, just my father and I (because we are heathens who don't do church on Sunday evenings). God, that show was good. I have now added the box sets to my traditional birthday/Christmas list.

We have an odd tradition in my family. We all make lists of things that we'd like to receive for birthdays and Christmases. The list usually gets deposited with someone responsible about six weeks before the date (my Mom is the keeper of the lists for sis, Da and I) and then family and friends can ask that person for suggestions and actually buy people things that they really want. This cuts down on the wasted money on bubble bath and foot car kits. We all really hate people wasting money on stuff the recipients will never use when there's a way to cut that out. My birthday and Christmas fall within a month of each other so I have one list that gets recycled. The rest of the family make two. This means that my list must be fairly long and have things that people stand some chance of finding. My Inca folk music CDs may never appear :-( I'm useless at thinking of presents so I usually start my list in July. This year it's going pretty well. Hopefully people will overlook the fannishness of asking for B5 box sets and actually buy them (as they failed to do with Alias last year). This year I've also begun a list for Mom so that I don't get fifteen grumpy relatives asking me why I don't know what Mom will want :-)

It's also autumn at last. My favourite season. I'd like it even better if Mom would let me put the damned heating on. I guess this is why I knitted an enormous blanket last year...

Now that sounds really sensible. I can never work out how I'm supposed to buy presents for people when I'm not allowed to ask what they want (like Secret Santa at work).

My landlady has put the heating on a bit this evening, so I am merely freezing :)

I've been reading Destina's B5 comments as well. Hubby and I used to settle down three evening a week at one point when SciFi were playing them almost continuously. We've got three box sets now, not that we watched them yet, but it was a great series. Funnily enough, I never got into the fandom or the fanfic. Possible because I'm a slasher at heart, and didn't really see any slashiness that I wanted to pursue outside of the pleasure of the episodes.
