Rambles on autumn and B5
Sep. 21st, 2004 05:55 pmWe have an odd tradition in my family. We all make lists of things that we'd like to receive for birthdays and Christmases. The list usually gets deposited with someone responsible about six weeks before the date (my Mom is the keeper of the lists for sis, Da and I) and then family and friends can ask that person for suggestions and actually buy people things that they really want. This cuts down on the wasted money on bubble bath and foot car kits. We all really hate people wasting money on stuff the recipients will never use when there's a way to cut that out. My birthday and Christmas fall within a month of each other so I have one list that gets recycled. The rest of the family make two. This means that my list must be fairly long and have things that people stand some chance of finding. My Inca folk music CDs may never appear :-( I'm useless at thinking of presents so I usually start my list in July. This year it's going pretty well. Hopefully people will overlook the fannishness of asking for B5 box sets and actually buy them (as they failed to do with Alias last year). This year I've also begun a list for Mom so that I don't get fifteen grumpy relatives asking me why I don't know what Mom will want :-)
It's also autumn at last. My favourite season. I'd like it even better if Mom would let me put the damned heating on. I guess this is why I knitted an enormous blanket last year...

Date: 2004-09-22 10:17 am (UTC)Hence the list plan :-) The Secret Santa my group of friends do includes writing down a couple of suggestions to go along with the name in a hat so that we don't end up with presents none of us want. I'd rather ask someone and get a couple of ideas to choose from than waste money on something that will go into a jumble sale in a few months.
Yay for your landlady :-) I guess it's time to dig out the winter woolies and wrap yourself in blankets and stuff whenever you're at home, huh?
