For the sake of everyone's friends pages, I'm putting the con fun beneath cuts.

The convention experience started considerably better than usual i.e. we didn't get lost. [livejournal.com profile] paranoidangel42 arrived as planned, we had lunch and started sorting out our panel for Redemption and then set out. The drive to the hotel (Sheraton) seemed unusually short (due to the lack of getting lost), which threw us a little. PA had previously asked me what time we could check in. I assumed she meant the hotel, so I cheerfully said it would be 2pm. Um, she actually meant registration at the con. My bad.

This was all due to a technical hitch with the postal system that meant PA hadn't received her ticket by Friday morning.

So we toddled off to the Thistle and wandered into the con suite, failing to really notice the "Do not enter" signs and other people hanging around outside until [livejournal.com profile] descended_sg1 pointed out that we were rather too early. Um, d'oh.

So we hung out in the hotel reception, meeting Louise, [livejournal.com profile] gerardkeating, [livejournal.com profile] sazandra and Vicky for a good natter while we were there. When registration opened, the queue was initially rather scary so we continued with the hanging out until it looked easier to deal with. After that, it was a simple matter to get a replacement pass for PA and a disabled pass for me so we still made it back to the hotel with plenty of time for a rest and a meal before the meet and greet party.

On our way into the meet and greet, we met [livejournal.com profile] sazzle_02 and [livejournal.com profile] dalethetimelord which was lovely. Dale joined PA and I in setting up camp at one of the tables, directing us to a table with plenty of floor space around it for reasons that became clear later. Apart from finding a table-mate who couldn't seem to find a single positive thing to say about anything (resisted the temptation to kill her very well), we had good companions and plenty of snacks to nibble on.

The M&G started on con time i.e. forty-five minutes late :-) Rather than bringing in the guests at ten minute intervals, Brian brought them all out in one go which at least ensured that the actors who took ages didn't start thirty minutes after everyone else. Didn't shorten M&G hugely, but we might have finished on time if we'd started on time!

Brian and Wolf Events outdid themselves on the guest front. We already knew that we had David Hewlett (do I need to point out that he's Rodney McKay?), Kate Hewlett (David's sister and Jeannie Millar) David Nykl (Dr. Zelenka) Erin Chambers (Sora), Ryan Robbins (Laden, leader of the Genii), Dan Payne (numerous Wraith and Super Soldiers, who never live to the end of an episode) Ivy Isenburg (casting director) and two of the Fandemonium authors. In addition, we had two surprise guests: Chuck Campbell (the as yet unnamed after three seasons Gate technician on Atlantis and set stand-in/line reader) and Aaron Douglas (the Chief from BSG)! After we'd all calmed down a little, the guests were let loose to visit each table in turn and spend a couple of months trying not to look too scared by us.

The reasoning for the floor space around our table became apparent a little while later when Dale disappeared for a few minutes and returned with...K9! There was a plan developing. It was also the start of a weekend of being upstaged by a robotic dog at every opportunitiy...

Dale, you are a star :-))

Apparently David Hewlett is a huge Doctor Who fan, something I heartily approve us. It's always nice to find out that some of these actors are just as geeky as you :-) Dale and his various Doctor Who items had been invited along to liven things up for DH. Several of the guests remarked on K9: they usually started by saying "Hi, I'm...hey, is that a robotic dog?" Except for the ones that knew what K9 was, who just got rather excited about K9. Kate Hewlett remarked that David would go crazy over it, which is precisely what happened. Unsurprisngly, the timetable had David getting to our table quite late in the proceedings and he was suitably impressed by the presence of K9 :-)

The M&G ended rather late and PA and I were feeling pretty tired, so we voted for an early night to better enjoy the rest of the con. We were back in our hotel, turning out the light not long after midnight feeling very virtuous for being so restrained.
