Things I have learned this morning:

1. A spoon works better than a knife when making coffee
2. Milk works better than OJ in that coffee
3. When I need a second cup of coffee in a morning and I muck it up totally, that might be a signal that I need another nap
4. 75% of Stargate fans are insane
5. Most of the insane ones are on the AG list, but a few of them have spread onto other lists
6. If I see one more Orrymain post...

Actually, 6 may not be a lesson - more of a threat. Now that voting in the Fanfic Awards is over I'm feeling a little less inclined to be nice about the beagle-writing idiot. Even her non-fic posts are like nails scraping on a blackboard. Argh! I feel sorry for the poor newbie she directed toward her fic at the weekend. Mind you, said poor newbie was looking for fics 'where Jack and Daniel are married and working on the Stargate'. Paraphrasing slightly, but not as much as you'd think. I have no problem with people liking a certain kind of fic (even if it is so far detached from reality that I want to spork my eyes out), but I wish they wouldn't deluge lists with their views on fluffy-wuffy Daniel and Jackikins.

Yeah, I may be grouchy this morning. Just a tiny bit. And I've had my coffee and everything.

I saw the stuff on there last night. I didn't feel that you needed to get slammed for saying it, but I can see why it caused problems when everyone explained their intentions. The girl who went ballistic on you is my beta and I was quite surprised to see that response from her - I do understand her sentiments, though, even if I don't agree with them. I'm definitely getting the feeling that the AG will be outlawing Atlantis fic and discussion. I've joined up with pegasus_gate anyway, so I can't say that I'm desperately worried about which direction the AG goes on it.

I stay on the AG for the interesting discussions and stop reading a thread when folks start flaming each other. Most of the people I really know and chat to are on FDAS as well/instead, so I wouldn't miss the people hugely, but I'm a sad person who enjoys seeing discussions on the show, writing fanfic, reading fanfic etc. and it's interesting to see and contrast the different POVs on the subjects.

I've just set up a rule in Outlook to automatically delete Orry's posts *g* Don't know why I didn't think of that before. It's not bouncing her, so she needed get pissy about anyone bouncing her 'wonderful' fic and opinions, but her posts will now be going straight into the delete folder. Thanks for giving me the idea :-) Now I've just got to figure out a way to delete anything that's a reply to something she's said...

Sorry about your beta reader -- I just reacted rather violently to her reaction (it was 2AM and I hadn't targetted her *g*) -- it merely annoyed me that everyone uses the excuse of not having sci-fi channel. What about those of us who don't get SG unless we do some fancy foot work? And even if I didn't have access to SGA, it's tickled my interest enough for me that I'd probably read transcripts and check screen caps if I couldn't download the eps. Then again, that's just me -- I'm slightly obsessed *g*

Even with my not reading flaming threads policy, I still have days when I get grumpy and bitchy and rant to Joy or post rant here about it. I just try not to say anything on list :-) I think the problem is that AG is supposed to be a nice, friendly place to be and yet it can sometimes be a completely bitchy, catty place that gets too involved with fandom politics.

*g* I think pegasus_gate may be the first Atlantis slash list around. I was glad to see faces that I know (that are some of the more reasonable members of the SG fandom) and I'm hoping that p_g won't have the problems that AG does.

S'okay. I understood why both of you said the things you did. I'm somewhat odd because I always try to see everyone's point of view in an argument and understand it, even if I disagree.

I think a lot of people objecting SGA discussion are as much about not wanting to watch it as not having it. Atlantis will start over here at the same time as SG (probably), so Brit sibs will have the same ep problems with it that they do on SG - they're just going to choose not to watch it. I'm attempting to be good and not d/l the eps before they air here (note the word 'attempt'), so it's probably going to be a couple of months before I can make an informed opinion on eps or the fanfic accuracy, but I'm quite happy to read about SGA. In fact, I don't see them as completely separate fandoms - I'd love to hear an argument stating that Star Trek: TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise are all entirely separate fandoms because that's essentially what I've seen people saying today about SG and SGA.

They're involving different characters, sure, and different sections and/or timelines of the fandom universe, but they're not separate fandoms. I'd say that they're different threads of the same fandom. I can understand people who prefer different areas of fandom (I'd rather watch and discuss DS9 over Voyager, any day, because I frankly preferred DS9) and they don't want to have discussions of a show that they're not going to watch, but a lot of people really are trying to say that they're completely separate fandoms. As though Atlantis has no basis or connection to the SG universe and therefore it can't be discussed or even referred to.

Good question. I remember a friend of mine, who's been in fandom for so many years it's scary *g*, that when she started out, The Sentinel was 'in', and people who didn't have access to the show, either read transscripts or got tapes from other -- everyone was helpful and in ONE fandom (okay, that blew up later, but alas.).

I wouldn't be able to write SGA without the knowledge I get from SG1. The same laws of physics apply, a lot of the same technology, same military rules, though SGA is an international project. Hmmm, that's actually interesting. WOULD the same rules apply? It's a civilian led project? Well, I guess they do... Just ignore me, the plot bunnies are going crazy. Besides, so far from home? Who cares about Don't Ask, Don't Tell?

And you're not the only one who prefered DS9 *g* -- I hadn't checked, but yeah, you're European like me -- DS9 WAS more popular over here. I liked that it was intelligent in a lot of the plots.

I think some fandoms start out that way and I can only dream about one day finding one ::sigh:: I like the idea of everyone getting along, helping each other and generally being friendly. The community aspect is part of what keeps me in fandom, but the fandom politics aspect makes me tear my hair out sometimes.

Ditto. I also think that there are going to be a lot S8 SG fics that are going to at least have to acknowledge the existance of SGA. The differences between the two shows are hopefully going to make the SGA fic interesting - we can probably do things and have situations that we simply couldn't do in SG. I can see a rash of bad 'everyone is gay and out' fics appearing when people realise this, although I'm hoping that the new freedom is going to be used responsibly and give us some new, original ideas in fanfic.

Ditto *g* I also liked that something that happened in one episode actually affected or was picked in a following episode. The term 'space opera' seems to be a dirty phrase for a lot of sci-fi fans, but it was that kind of stuff that made me love DS9 and B5. They could be intelligent and interesting because they were allowed to recognise events from previous episodes and have moral dilemmas that didn't revolve around the Prime Directive.

Yanno, I have *no* idea how either of you two are still communicating coherently. The AG is a cess pool of violent, aggressive people, and just because there's an occasional lapse of interesting discussion shouldn't give either of you the reason to stay on that list.

And Orry is there. Bitch rightly left her short, disgusting stay on the FDAS when she saw she wasn't going to get fawned over, petted and told what a princess she is. Gah.

So...just what the hell are you two still doing there? If you want intelligent convos, start some up on the FDAS. Goddess knows we need them.

Well, I don't know about Xim, but I think it's because I'm an odd person who has to get really, really, PO'd to unsub from a list. I'm unnaturally calm and tolerant. Either that or the insanity has already hit *g*

In part, for me, it's because there are a different variety of opinions over on AG. I love FDAS and look to you guys for intelligent, rational discussions, but it's sometimes interesting to get another look at issues. Crazy, I know, but that's the main reason.

If you want intelligent convos, start some up on the FDAS. Goddess knows we need them.

I'm never sure whether I can post a question/convo starter that has been inspired by or just plain lifted from the AG. I don't want to offend anyone on either list by doing it. I also remember the problems when the same question was posted to both lists - I don't want a flame war to accidentally spill over to FDAS again. Saying that, maybe I could save up some of those questions in a file and pose them to the list a few weeks later so that cross-posting won't happen. Hmmm.

As for episodes...hmm...I'm a fairly indiscriminate Janet fan, but I am fond of some of the season 2, season 3 or season 5 look. Anything with her smiling is guaranteed to make me a happy girl :-)

Well...first of all, there wasn't any spill over. All there was was this flame from this stupid vapid cow who couldn't even identify who she was mad at and took it out on the FDAS list. *She* was the one with all the rude behavior, loose marbles, and general schizoid attitude, as well as the only one who named names.

Second of all, if you see something on another list that you'd like to bring up at the FDAS, then by all means do so. We do it. Just say that you "saw the topic on another list and would like to discuss it; are there any opinions to..."
and state whatever it is. Trust me, sweetie. I know you love keeping the peace (I swear, you're a Libra) and general well-being (and not bringing over any of the flaming bitches from that other list), but it's not on your head that any bad-tempered posts will go, but on the posters. If things ever get out of hand, believe me, they can be banned from the list, and I won't wait for Mand to do it, either. In so saying, I don't expect anyone belonging to *both* lists to be rude and offensive. Those who like the AG in a cliquish fashion never post on the FDAS. Those who are just fond of chatting to folks or reading various, strange opinions *g* (like you, sweetie), won't be objecting to starting up a discussion that's been seen elsewhere.

So don't wait three weeks. Post. You've my permission as one of the flaky listmods. And I promise to behave myself. ;-)
