Happy Friday!

I really needed Friday to arrive this week. Or more importantly, I need tomorrow so that I can sleeeeeeeep and then spend a day buried in Redshirts.

How did four days turn into such a long week anyway?

I had an amazing dinner with Mum last night. The scallop carbonara was one of the best pastas I've ever had. Om nom. It's definitely a treat sort of place so I won't be going there often but it was totally worth it.

I finished [archiveofourown.org profile] scifigrl42's fic "The Act of Creation Will Be Your Salvation" last night and now I have all the bot feels. I'm so glad that I waited until it was finished before reading it, though, because I cannot imagine the trauma of waiting for new chapters. That is one fine fic.

We shall not discuss how many in-progress fics I have right now. Or how many ideas have been noted down in my two-part ideas log just in case I need inspiration. I blame Fahre.

At least the Marvel Big Bang is progressing well. Chapter five of eight is done so only three to go. I suspect this may top out at around 20k words, double the minimum, so that's pretty sweet.

I should probably write a bit tomorrow. Maybe. Before I hide in my book. Hmm.

Cut for more mother weirdness )

Today it is Friday and OMG it couldn't come too soon. M and I have spent most of the week fighting Oracle's random weirdness and the frankly insane data that we're supposed to turn into a report on Project Doom. This should have been the easiest phase of Project Doom. I should have known that anything that looked simple wouldn't be.

For stress-relief, I've been committing insane silly fic. I've also worked on the stuff that I have actual deadlines for, but I'm finding that silly stuff is perfect when my brain has been fried by data that breaks all the rules of sense and nature.

Tomorrow I'm going to see Spiderman, finally. Yay.

Also, I read a couple of Hawkeye graphic novels this week and wow is he ever sassy and snarky. And apparently not above movie quotes and random Les Mis quotes (which Natasha totally calls him on, yay Natasha), which I find both adorable and wonderful. The comics canon is better than I'd hoped for! Except for that silly costume :-D

This weekend I'll be putting in my Hugo vote and then I'm free to run off and read all the Scalzi and Lackey my heart desires. Woo! I've got such a big post-Hugo reward pile to play with :-D

Fridays may be my favourite day of the week. It's a tough pick between Friday and Saturday most weeks. I'm veging out tonight with Holby City and Midsummer Murders. If I'm very good, I might knit something. It's so nice to know that I don't need to deal with work (and a colleague who is being utterly annoying) again until Monday.

I should do a book post soon. I've hit something like 13 in my yearly count already. I bought the first in the Marvel reboots (Fantastic Four) and it's a long one, so that will probably bring me to 14. It's probably going to be my entertainment while I'm having my hair done tomorrow. Oh, iPad, how I love thee.

Tomorrow there is much rugby to be watched and I'm undecided about my lunch plans. For various reasons, I'm likely to be out and about when it's time to eat and I'm torn between saying "stuff it" and popping into somewhere for a tasty cooked meal or being good and cooking at home. It will come down to timings and how lazy I'm feeling. I've been good and cooked all week! Last weekend's sushi was last weekend - I'm allowed to treat myself this weekend, surely.

Oh, Friday, I love you so much.

It's Friday. Finally.

It's been one of those weeks. After a quiet start, I got silly work, long, boring conferences and completely insane traffic on the way home for the last two days. I've made it to the weekend with sanity mostly intact, rather a nice amount of pain (not!) in back, hips and knees and an overwhelming gratitude that I don't have to see the office again for three days.

Sigh.

Over the weekend, my office area is being completely reorganised so I will be sitting at a new desk (got a window seat at last) on Monday. Some of my stuff may even have made it the fifteen feet that I'm moving. Not holding my breath on that one, though. The nice part was that we all had to be logged out of the system and packed up by 3pm so we all buggered off to the pub until it was 'official' home-time. Nice to spend a bit of time with my colleagues in a friendly setting because I actually like and get on well with quite a lot of them.

And now it is Friday night, I'm about to get an early night before going into London with Mum and Sis tomorrow to shop. Sis wants some new trainers and she's dragging me into some shops so that I can buy some Converse trainers to replace the rather old things that I've got. I'm not entirely convinced about this, but I'm willing to let them attempt to make me fashionable :-)

Yesterday my department decided to have a lunch/afternoon thing out to celebrate how fantastic we are. We toddled into London and had a fairly decent meal. The slight problem was that the organisers decided to do a 'fun' activity afterwards.

A treasure hunt around London. Hmmm.

It probably would have been fine if it hadn't been raining continuously all day. Except it was, so I ended up fairly damp and miserable. I managed to scarper reasonably early to get the train back to the office to pick up my car, but still didn't get home until after 7pm. Feeling aching and totally exhausted. Unfortunately, this means that I have done no packing at all. I did manage to write lists, though.

So all my packing has to be done this evening and I'm really hoping that I can get out of work early enough. I'm also using my cane today, which is not precisely fun. This building definitely isn't designed for it. I just popped downstairs to get a cup of tea and needed three attemps to get back into my office. The doors are key-carded and they kept re-locking themselves by the time I had a hand free (between stick, tea and card) to actually open them. Grrrrr.

Still, this time tomorrow I'll be in the airport safely checked in waiting for my gate :-) And this time on Sunday I will hopefully be curled up asleep at my aunt's house. Woo! Twenty-four hours to go until I depart for Canada!

There are dozens of things that I haven't had time to finish (fannish, workish and personalish), but I'll just have to forget about them and enjoy my break :-) Is it time to go home yet?
selenay: (bored now)
I can think of very little say apart from "thank god it's Friday".

Doing some very boring stuff rather than my much more interesting stuff. And producing numbers that are correct, but not what was wanted. Ah, the joys of my company fiddling numbers.

And also researching MP3 players with a view to possibly purchasing myself an iPod. Will be making a decision and purchasing something from Amazon this weekend, hopefully, so that I'll have it and have had time to play before I go to Canada next month.

We discovered a fun bug in a table on our warehouse. Oddly, this is a table that was altered during the weekend's great table change fiasco :-) It's a geeky thing to do with the difference between nulls and zeros, but it's causing our figures to be wildly out on certain things.

I suddenly feel rather like Sam Carter babbling about null and zero :-)

But at least it's Friday. And there's only five hours until I go home. Woo!

Super sekrit message to [livejournal.com profile] terrylbirch: If you don't hear from me, Gmail is being freaky. But I will receive emails. It just took me five attempts to get a message to send so it looks like we're having connection issues here again :-(

I need a geek icon *nods*

Much worky work. Much much.

Possibly babbling due to VBA overdose. However, the report that I've been designing is now very spiffy. I got given some builds on the initial report and have put most of them into place, but my perfectionist leanings are making me go above and beyond the builds. Just 'cos, y'know, I'm sad like that.

So it's a very good thing that it's Friday because I was dreaming in VBA last night, always a sign that I've OD'd. And tomorrow I'm having lunch with T followed by viewing Brokeback Mountain, which will hopefully prevent further brain deterioration. Sunday will, of course, be divided between French work and The Never Ending Website. See, I know how to have fun weekends too!
