selenay: (bitch please)
When I say "this is actually my busiest day of the week, the data warehouse is crap and nothing is going to run very fast", this is not an indication that I give a sod about your request and will actually want to do anything about it. I don't care that you have a meeting tomorrow and need those figures - you should have asked for them on Friday rather than doing it last minute on the busiest day of the week for everyone in the business.

Telling me, "So how do you suggest we solve this problem?" does not endear me to you further. No, oddly enough we do not keep those numbers you want hanging around just in case because nobody bloody wants them usually. And yes, I could go into the last two years worth of weekly reports and pull the numbers out of them but this does not, in fact, match with my extremely busy day and 5pm deadlines for my own work.

You can indeed call me back at 3pm to see how I'm getting on. Knock yourself out please, knock yourself out now. My progress report will probably be something like "nope, no chance in hell that you're getting those numbers, the data warehouse ain't co-operating." Calling me while my boss it at lunch and cannot veto the request is sneaky and underhanded. I will be passing the phone to him when you call back so he can explain why I can't spend three hours pulling the numbers you need out of old reports and why the data warehouse is shot to hell today and won't be producing your numbers tonight.

Sod off. Really. Any other day of the week and your request would be fine. But not Monday. When you know the meeting is happening and you will probably need the numbers, a bit of forethought can be done.

Why do I work with bloody idiots who think that I can just drop everything to do their work for them?
