Happy Holidays, everyone!

And I got the BEST Yuletide gifts :-) I can't believe I actually got fics in the tiny fandom that I'd been super hoping just to get one little thing in.

I got two!

skies above can't be stormy and Love-All are both based on this awesome little film, and my heart is filled with joy by them :-)

Hope everyone else is enjoy their day, and finding amazing fics in the Yuletide collection to read. Just don't forget to eat delicious food and watch Doctor Who, okay?

Today and tomorrow are planned as quiet, very little activies days and then I'm on a plane back to Canada on Saturday. My feelings about this are mixed: I've loved my holiday, had so much fun doing stuff and playing tourist in England, and am at the "will kill for my lovely comfy bed and beautiful shower" stage of being OK with going home. Obviously I'd love to continue wandering around in shorts and bare feet, doing cool stuff like bookshops, musicals and cream teas. Not being at work has been awesome. I am starting to miss my own bed, shower and kitchen though.

Seriously, how did I sleep in the bed here for all those years?

Today I tried to sleep in a bit, which resulted in me getting up not long after 8am with a nasty oversleeping headache. I'm now trying to consume sufficient caffeine to make that go away.

And thus, I'm thinking about fun silly things like fic and fandom and stuff!

On the one hand, it's very frustrating that AO3 keeps going down. Argh. On the other hand, I'm constantly amused that it's because the Avengers explosion is taking it down :-D As I'm one of the people hitting it up every day for new stuff (I have more stuff flagged to read later than I can count right now, argh) I can't even be that mad. Poor AO3, it survived Yuletide fairly well this year and now a single newish fandom is killing it.

Speaking of Avengers fandom, you should all go and read everything Avengers that [archiveofourown.org profile] scifigrl47 has written. She brings the crack and it's laugh out loud, brilliant stuff with astonishingly good writing and characterisation considering she's writing high octane insanity. I'm particularly enamoured of anything in the Toasterverse and you need to read it to know why it's brilliant.

Also, I got recced this Sherlock slash story yesterday (Matchmaker, Matchmaker) that is lovely and long and the first chapter has already got me hooked. When I get home, there is going to be a big recs post of doom for all the stuff that I've been reading lately.

I should also probably throw all of it onto Haven Reviews. It's been too long since that got a good update.

It appears that I'm falling back into fandom with ease and joy :-) And now, I'm determined to get at least 1,000 words down on something today. I've now got two on the go fics - Sum of Parts (Doctor Who) and the as-yet-unamed Avengers thing for the Marvel Big Bang. This may be my most productive year for at least five years.

Who am I and where did tired, unhappy, uncreative Sel go? Because I don't want that Sel back. I like this happy one much better :-)

The packers arrived bright and early this morning - 15 minutes early, in fact! Thanks to all our hard work yesterday we were able to just point them at the stuff and let them have at it. Mum and I sat in the lounge knitting and chatting, only moving to make tea and confirm odd questions.

It was a much needed break after yesterday! There is still a bit of sorting out to do because we need to move a couple of bits into this room so that I have somewhere to put a bedside lamp and store the remaining clothes, but everything is looking very empty and echoey. Photos will follow as soon as I've found my card reader. It all looked very cool :-) And there were metres and metres of bubble-wrap! I was good and didn't pop it all.

The plan for the day is lunch, then hit town to investigate the big new library and eat cake. We didn't expect them to be so fast so we have half a day that we didn't expect to have. Woo! Mum and I then plan the re-arrange the study downstairs to our liking now that the piano has gone and present Da with a fait accompli on the new arrangements *pokes tongue out at general direction of Father's office*

My [livejournal.com profile] femslash08 assignment arrived this morning and I was very pleased to discover that there are a number of pairings that I feel I can write. Woo! I will be writing a little note to my person later, when I have recovered from the general packing exhaustion.

Right now, I'm just feeling oddly relieved that it's done. I waved good-bye to my stuff for two months and it was a little sad to see the van disappear into the distance, but also incredibly satisfying to know that this huge job that's been looming over me for months is actually done. The packers were fantastic. I'll let you know what happens at the other end, but right now I'd definitely recommend them for international moves.

I've been having a poke around my iPod and it occurred to me that I could load fic to read on it as well as fic to listen to. Does anyone have any experience with putting text files into an iPod? And can folders be created when doing so to enable better organisation of the stories? I could even download text file classics from the Guttenburg project if I wanted to!

At last!

I see the light at the end of the tunnel on the Never Ending Website! The graphics are finally finished and I've got the two largest image galleries put together. If I can get four hours of solid work in next weekend, I should be able to show the completed website to the client for sign-off. The idea of getting this off my plate by the end of the month really appeals.

The Quaker website is still problematic, due to serious issues with access to the site that the host is still refusing to sort out. Or even pay any attention to. The client has now contacted them to express his displeasure - I'm hoping that the money guy making some threats may finally get things rolling.

The only thing that hasn't been done is French homework. Erm. Possibly tomorrow evening would be a handy thing.

As a de-stress from HTML and graphics all day, I spend an hour reading Atlantis fic that broke my brain ([livejournal.com profile] cesperanza) with the wrongness and the not-being-able-to-quit-reading-ness followed by [livejournal.com profile] nel_ani's amnesia John/Rodney fic, which hit all the good spots of my love of this cliche. So, y'know, a day well-used :-)
