selenayIt has taken me a month to find all of the information necessary to reclaim my tax for three years of overpaying. I had to fill out seperate forms for each year. Four page forms. And out of that, I needed to fill in two boxes on each form.
This afternoon, my father and I (he's a chartered accountant and certified tax advisor, so knows a thing or two) had to decode the Inland Revenue website to figure out where the hell to send the bloody forms. Oh, and discover that I'd used the wrong reference numbers in one place. 'Cos obviously I should use my employer's tax code rather than my tax code when it says "Tax Reference" with no helpful hints in their unhelpful guidance notes.
It took us ten minutes to find the address of the relevant office. And he's a tax advisor. They couldn't tell us in the guidance notes where to send them?
I've decided that it's obviously a conspiracy to stop us poor overpayers from taking our money back from the money-grubbing government who have already spent the money we accidentally paid and who will now blame us for the national debt because, obviously, we shouldn't have asked for our hard-earned money back.
And I'm fully expecting a call in 27 days ('cos they have 28 days to send my cheque) to tell me that I filled in the wrong forms, must fill in a Q7882-11-x42 to refute those forms and then fill in a G0012/341H in triplicate to re-apply, followed by at least three other forms in quaduplicate with nasty lettery-numbery references to release the money. All of which will be followed by a nasty letter written in crayon saying "Neener, you can't have you money 'cos we already spent it. Loser."

Am photocopying the forms before posting so that I can refer to them when they drag me away at midnight for a five-day questioning about why I have the temerity to want my money back.
