The Untamed episode 36

So last time, I predicted that drunk!LWJ was going to be painful and awful. He'd been angry and sad when he grabbed that cup of wine, so clearly whatever happened next was going to hurt.

I WAS SO WRONG.

I am so happy I was wrong.

GOOFY DRUNK LWJ IS AMAZING.

The chickens! LWJ wos 'ere! (Of course WWX had to go back and add his own contribution to that, he is a labrador chaos gremlin after all.) He likes rabbits!

I was making dying whale sounds at various points. Pity hockeybosh having to live through my reactions to that.

(Rabbits. Chickens. OMG, not subtle. ILU show.)

And then it swung from goofy hilarity to sadness, because of course it did. I was half-expecting WWX to ask LWJ about recognising him on the mountain, but WWX chose to ask for a different difficult truth and I'm happy about that. He didn't take the short-cut to get to the thing LWJ has told him to figure out himself. Instead, he found out that LWJ regrets not standing with him in Heavenly Nightless City.

(Which is both true and not true, because right at the end LWJ was fighting to protect him, but I guess that's not the way LWJ sees it. He feels he should have been with WWX from the start of that night, maybe all the way through everything, and he feels that he failed WWX even though he supported WWX more than anyone else did. It just wasn't enough and WWX died and he's never got over that but now he's got a chance to do things differently and he's going to, no matter what. I'll just be crying over here, okay?)

HB described hungover LWJ as a wet hissing cat and it's so true. And gosh, he panicked about what on earth he could have confessed to WWX. GEE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT HE THINKS HE MIGHT HAVE CONFESSED TO.

I am confused by his drunk memory. He remembers the fight well enough to answer questions about it, but doesn't remember anything else? Hmmm. Suspicious.

I am genuinely loving all the adventuring and working together stuff in these episodes. I want the whole of the rest of the series to be like this. Which is why I'm a little concerned they've split up to do separate things AGAIN, because that never goes well. LWJ chasing a swordsman who is as good as he is and knows all his moves? With possible badly-made Yin Tiger Seal involvement?

Yeah, that seems like a great TERRIBLE idea.

However, I am slightly less worried about WWX than I usually am because he's got the juniors to look after. If he's got people to look after, he's much less likely to charge into a self-sacrificing and terrible plan. He's a man who needs a project and people to be responsible for. When he has that, he tends to be (slightly) better at self-care. Or at least, he recognises that he needs to stay alive and somewhat healthy so he can keep looking after the people who need him, and that curbs the worst of his "I'll just do something stupid and dangerous because it doesn't matter if I die" instincts.

I have so many feelings about WWX and the juniors. SO MANY.

I have so many feelings about WWX and children. That little scene where he's watching the mini versions playing was so soft and lovely.

When he's fixed the world with LWJ, I'm hoping LWJ takes him home and gives him a class of baby Lans to teach and a couple of nice responsible projects. I have so many feelings about teacher!WWX because he appears to be very good at it.

HB is trying to enable me into a plot bunny about WWX teaching the Cloud Recesses lectures and I'm not going to be writing Untamed fic so I'm definitely not writing that. Nope, keep that bunny away from me.

I also have so many feelings about the juniors. Nobody prepared me for them! They're so adorable! I'm so happy to see them, even though it's clearly a really bad idea for them to be investigating a place called coffin city and they're very lucky WWX and LWJ were there.

That old lady in the shop looked a bit ghost puppety, but I'm not sure? Hmm. I am definitely concerned.

Oh, and speaking of ghost puppets...Wen Ning! It was both ouch (that nail in his skull? Baby!) and also sweet in so many ways. I really love WWX's friendship with Wen Ning. I really worry about who kept Wen Ning alive and tried to control him. STOP HURTING HIM.

And Wen Ning found him because he was playing his flute in the street, after putting drunk!LWJ to bed (with lots of gazing and handholding), which I'm clearly not having feelings about AT ALL.

Apparently I have a lot of feelings about many things right now. This is such fun.

Yes LZs regret is quite apparant I think and his resolve to fix that with a 2nd chance breaks me if I think too hard about it. But also he doesn't want to say any of this outloud as it activates wet hissing cat LZ 🤣

WWX and Wen Ning are delightful. As is DRUNKEN DISASTER LAN WANGJIIIIIIII i love it so much.

I entirely agree WWX would be a great teacher, and there is fanfic which elaborates on this theme! The baby Lans (and Jin Ling) are so cute, I think of them as the ducklings. :D
