The Untamed episode 35

Oh thank goodness, they reunited quickly and I'm feeling much less worried now. DON'T SPLIT UP AGAIN, OK?

And it was a reunion that involved a lot of WWX gazing at LWJ, and then a bit of gazing intently at each other, and then it got even better so I'm just going to quietly scream into a pillow for a while.

I now have context for the gifs I've seen of LWJ carrying WWX in a piggyback! Great context! And a flashback to when WWX offered LWJ a piggyback! :D OK, so the cause was WWX having an evil curse on his leg and JC having used Purple Lightning on him so he was limping, but still. I don't care. It was great.

There were way too many great moments in this episode. Working together to figure things out. Battle couple. Making music together to calm down the sword spirit and LWJ SMILED DURING THAT, I SAW IT.

I have a theory that LWJ realises he should/could have been more open before, more honest about his feelings, and he's making up for it all now. He's softer around WWX at times, doesn't hold back from having expressions and offering supportive help, and every now and again, WWX even lets him help. WWX should do that more, but he's got a lot of bad habits to unlearn.

(I also had a lot of feelings about WWX briefly offering to strip so LWJ could check whether his evil curse mark was healing properly. HB and I concluded LWJ has grown and matured as a person, learned a few things about himself, which is why he reacted somewhat differently this time to in the cave. But WWX is still totally clueless because of course he is. LWJ might have taken him up on the offer if they hadn't been in a public street at the time?)

Anyway.

While there was a lot of really lovely Wangxian stuff in this episode, which made me very happy, there was also plot!

Oh plot.

Nie Huaisang is not suited to being a clan leader. I love him, but he's too sweet to be the kind of leader his brother was. Please tell me nobody has given him a murderous saber because I'm honestly not sure he'd be able to control one.

Also, the whole thing with the Nie Clan having MURDEROUS SABERS as their chosen weapon is...what were you thinking? You have to imprison the things after their owners die and feed them evil spirits and make up legends to keep people away from the tombs. THIS IS CLEARLY A VERY BAD IDEA, WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT.

(A question that applies to so many choices people have made in this show.)

(Also, I feel they shouldn't be judging WWX's demonic cultivation if this is how they cultivate.)

But at least now we know what the sword spirit is and we know there are two groups out there working against each other to do...something. Hmm.

The catch-up at the end on all the things that have gone really badly since WWX died was not a fun thing. Battle boyfriends have split up, Jin Guangyao is a clan leader, Xue Yang is on the loose...honestly, I'm not hugely surprised that LWJ decided he needed a drink.

I'm assuming that will go as badly for him as it did the only other time we've seen him drink, so the next episode promises to be the bad kind of fun.

I read it as him being frustrated and angry about all the things that have happened and at all the people who can't see that something is very, very wrong. On his own, LWJ can't fix what's happening and he knows it.

But he has WWX now, so hopefully together they can fix things. They've always done better working together.

Yes, I ship this so hard.


There will be no Untamed tonight because it's extended family Zoom night. As is traditional, everyone will talk about the exceedingly erudite and intellectual things they're reading and watching and I'll just nod quietly because my C-dramas and fic aren't exactly family-compatible media consumption.

There may also be a lot of discussion of poo, because two of the families have babies right now. Poo and opinions on the BBC Proms. It's always an interesting night.

It is not subtle, I love it, he'd definitely have said the yes out loud if they'd been somewhere more private :D

And WWX would still have been clueless BUT ANYWAY.

(Plotting a "five timed WWX offered to strip and 1 time LWJ said yes" fic wouldn't be wrong, correct?)

How the Nie clan have lasted so long is a MYSTERY to me (have you discovered that there are two special movies after the series? One of which is about the Nie clan and the crazy sabre spirits) but yes I had very much the same thought about judging WWX's demonic cultivation but accepting this though I think most of the Cultivation world doesn't know the details?

Yeah, I got the impression that the rest of the Cultivation world doesn't know, but Nie Mingjue knows so he's got no call to judge WWX's demonic cultivation! Nor do any senior Nie clan people! I am judging them so hard for their judgement right now.
