I was only planning to watch episode 22 but then there was a cliffhanger and I couldn't look away, so episode 23 happened to.

Hint for future people on this journey: you'll need to make time for a 22/23 double-bill because you won't be able to stop at 22.

There was so much happening in these episodes. SO MUCH.

But even though there was so much plot, my favourite parts were the quiet moments with LWJ and WWX. Gosh, what a shocker, I'm sure everyone is surprised by this. But they were such lovely scenes, even though they were painful in their ways. It felt like those quiet scenes where they were just talking were the closest WWX could get to being himself with someone. Not pretending to be his old self or putting on a brave front to keep people safe, just being who he is now. Obviously he can't tell LWJ everything, but he also doesn't have to hide as many things and maybe he needs that? What he's doing and going through is difficult enough, doing it completely alone is too hard.

So during those times, he can let a bit of his brave front go and maybe let someone else carry a little bit of load, except not really. That scene where they talked during the feast was sad because WWX is right about how much LWJ trusts him - LWJ is wants to trust him but he also knows too much to just blindly trust that WWX isn't going to eventually turn dark side despite his promise not to.

Okay, yes, I have SO MANY FEELINGS about these two. So many. Thank you, show. And that's not even covering the whole part where LWJ sat with him during the three day coma and played music because that's too much.

As is WWX declaring that he learned something from the Lans about trying to control his new cultivation methods using music magic. There are too many feelings here, okay?

So imma move on from them for a while.

I can't believe how tense all the final parts of the Sunshot campaign battle were.

(Except I kept wincing slightly at how tiny their army was. Such a tiny army. I'm hoping the main army was somewhere we never saw.)

I'm still not 100% clear what WWX was doing with the music and the confrontation with Wen Ruohan, except that it was both incredibly dangerous to his soul and also really effective. It also seems like one problem (the three Yin metal pieces) has been solved and a whole new problem (the Yin Tiger Seal) has been added, so yes, well done with that. What a great plan, as always.

I'm not entirely sure what the significance is of Meng Yao using a soft sword to kill Wen Ruohan. It seemed like WWX was concerned, though, and is starting to put some thoughts together that I'm a bit worried about.

Meng Yao is just generally concerning me, because while I don't think he's actually turned evil or anything, I do get the feeling that his actions aren't coming from a heroic place either. He seems to bounce and land well no matter what happens, which isn't always a bad thing, but doesn't make him trustworthy to me.

The Wen extermination campaign is...I do not like Jin Guanshan. Or most of the other Jins, frankly. I have the strong feeling that deciding to exterminate anyone who has ever been a part of the Wen Clan, had dealings with them, or even thought about the Yin metal is going to become extreme. And by that I mean, I suspect it's going to lead to a whole new kind of conflict because certain people (WWX and LWJ in particular) are not going to sit idly by while innocent people are slaughtered.

And something still has to happen to lead to WWX becoming the feared Yiling Patriarch and falling off that cliff. I'm starting to suspect it has roots in what the Jin Clan is doing.

Which makes me deeply unhappy about Jin Guangshan bringing up the whole arranged marriage thing between Jin Zixuan and Jiang Yanli in front of everyone in the middle of a feast, putting Jiang Cheng into the most awkward position ever. Even leaving aside Yanli's terrible taste in men, this does not bode well.

*sigh* This show is very stressful. I love it.
