I sound so good right now

I visited my parents at the weekend and my Dad has the most horrendous cold.

Yesterday I woke up with a slight tickle in my throat. But I was singing at Marylebone station after work and I am a determined sort of person, so I did my thing and ate Vocalzones and make it through two hours of carols and assorted Christmas songs successfully.

By the time I got home, my voice was on its way out.

Today I have no voice. I am hilarious. If I strain, I can get a sort of whisper squeak out. My boss keeps curling up laughing every time I have to speak.

(He's a treasure. An actual treasure, not the sarcastic type. He fought marketing off for me today so he gets so much kudos.)

I need to do some last minute shopping after work so I plan to do that, get home, and possibly not leave the house again until I can speak properly. Although I've now started sneezing and sniffling, so I might not feel much like going anywhere for a couple of days. Please let this cold be done by the weekend? I have too much to do!

I feel worse today, because the full cold has come out, but hopefully I'll be better by Christmas.

I still sound bizarre. My cats don't know what to make of squeaky kitty mum.

I know the feeling, intimately. It was such a weird thing to try to speak and absolutely nothing came out. :D

It really, really is.

If I try really hard, I can make a squeaky sound. Sometimes dropping down to a bass sound. But having silence as the default is so weird!

Hopefully I'll be better by the weekend. Or Christmas at the outside.

Total silence would be awesome for a moment, though. I mean, I can’t work without my voice, and sick leave is paid time off, so... :P

I remember with odd fondness a time I had laryngitis, and after I got my voice back, I was a full-on bass for a month. I have a low voice for a woman, but this was, like, James Earl Jones deep. I loved it!

Having my voice drop like that would be so disturbing. And unhelpful - I sing soprano! I'd have to miss choir until it went back to normal!

I've got a full-on cold now, so hopefully my voice died because of that combined with singing, and not something like laryngitis.
