*peers at Twitter notifications* Ah, I see a Big Name in publishing retweeted something. Goodbye, ability to see any other notifications :-)

You know how a few months ago I was all aflutter because I love my iPhone so much? I STILL LOVE IT. Having a cell phone? One that's capable of sending texts and making calls and stuff? So good. If I, to take a random example, want to ask a friend out to dinner tomorrow night, I can just text her! And have it arranged in a few minutes! It's wonderful!

Who knew having the ability to communicate reliably would be so brilliant? (All of you knew that, but let's pretend...)

Anyway, Holby City.

I have been waiting for Isaac to finally get his comeuppance, and it was so satisfying to see it happen.

Of course, it was even more satisfying to finally see Dom wake up and realise what was happening. As Isaac explained that the violence in their relationship was a sign that it was a grown-up relationship, my skin crawled. Actually crawled. Mark Elliot was brilliant in this episode, in a creepy malevolent way.

David Ames was also brilliant as Dom. He's played the evolution of that character so well. It's going to be fascinating to see how the aftermath plays out. One of the good things about Holby is that they don't just say "that plot is over, we'll forget about it now!". We'll see Dom's recovery, which is every bit as important as the story of an abusive relationship has been.

Until Hanssen commented on the ways people react to grief, it hadn't occurred to me that Isaac might be Dom's coping mechanism for Arthur, but it makes sense. Particularly coupled with the realisation that Isaac had targetted Dom from the start. Serena reacted to her grief for her daughter in one destructive way, Dom reacted to his grief for his best friend in a different, equally destructive way.

Have I mentioned lately that I love Hanssen? He's such a wonderful character and Guy Henry plays him to perfection. Understated, but always far more insightful than you expect. I'd only been saying to Mum at the weekend that I was sure Hanssen knew and was trying to hint to Dom that he was someone Dom could go to, and then we get this episode. Hanssen had been doing everything within his power to help, but he was also constrained by the power he had in what he could do. So when he finally could do something tangible, he did it (and he relished it) and then he could be Dom's support.

Aw, I just really love Hanssen, you guys.

The only way this episode could have been better is if Bernie had got more than two minutes of screen time, but her tiny bit of screen time was MAGNIFICENT so it's still good.

This is why I stick with Holby when it has wobbly patches. The odd run of a month or two of stories I don't care about or get bored with are more than compensated for by the times when they tell a brilliant story over the course of months with a pay-off like this.
