Fall teevees
Sep. 22nd, 2014 10:34 amIn not great news, my body decided to be deeply stupid about this wisdom tooth extraction thing and I have dry socket. Yay.
Today my face just aches like a mother fucker, which I'm counting as progress from the excruciating awfulness of a large chunk of last week. Talking is making it hurt more, so I'm back at work today, but trying not talk to people. Communication via instant messenger only, please. I need to have my face feeling un-painful enough to eat, because otherwise I'll have to go back to my sick couch.
The other bottom wisdom tooth can stay right where it is, thank you very much. Never doing this again.
In better news, all the teevees return to my screen this week! Well, some of them. And others are being added in the next couple of weeks. So it seems like a good chance to catch up on what I'm watching and what I'm considering picking up.
Shows I'm continuing from last year
I'm not actually dropping anything from last year. Two things that I was vaguely watching (Almost Human and Once Upon a Time in Wonderland) got cancelled, but that's it in terms of dropping shows. I think this is the first time in a couple of years that I haven't dropped anything.
The list from last year: Agents of SHIELD, Once Upon a Time, Arrow, Sleepy Hollow, NCIS.
New shows I'm thinking about
Not a huge number of things caught my eye this year. I really enjoyed the backdoor pilot for NCIS: New Orleans, so that's been added to my PVR. The Flash is a spin-off from Arrow, so it's an obvious one to pick up.
I'm intrigued by Forever, so I'm going to try the first couple of episodes and see how it goes.
Gotham didn't do anything for me in the trailers and promos, so I'm skipping that one. Ditto for Constantine.
In January there will be Agent Carter, which is the new show I'm most excited for this year.
So that's a total of two, potentially three(if Forever is good), that I'm picking up this fall, with another in January. And of those, only one (Forever) isn't a spin-off of a current show. I'm not sure what that says - maybe that there wasn't a huge amount of new original genre programming this year?
Or maybe that what there is, wasn't being marketed to me?
So, what is everyone else watching/picking up this year?

Date: 2014-09-22 10:08 pm (UTC)I also noticed you don't have Elementary on your list ? to my mind that's another must watch show ...
Defiance is also getting better and better so worth a watch ...

Date: 2014-09-23 02:55 pm (UTC)Elementary is one that I've been following via DVD. I mainlined all of S1 over Christmas last year, and plan to do the same with S2 this Christmas :-D
And I'm just finishing S1 of Person of Interest, because I'm horribly behind! But it's rather good, so I'll be grabbing S2 and S3 soonish.

Date: 2014-09-23 02:49 pm (UTC)Our list is: Person of Interest, Sleepy Hollow, Arrow, and we'll be trying out The Flash and Gotham.
I wasn't aware of 'Forever,' and I utterly distrust trailers to tell me anything about what the show is actually going to be like, so I'll be very interested to know what you think of it!

Date: 2014-09-23 02:59 pm (UTC)The pilot for 'Forever' was uneven as heck, but it's got some fun ideas and there's a scene near the end that hooked me. So I'm giving it another couple of episodes before I decide whether it's a permanent keeper or not. Pilots are almost always the weakest episodes (rarities like Sleepy Hollow aside), so the fact that I came out intrigued to see more is possibly positive.
tldr; It didn't blow me away, but it didn't put me off completely :-)
(The pilot was the reason it took me a year to get into Elementary. How do people keep making such terrible pilots?)
