Work stuff and fun stuff

Apparently our server room tried to melt down for the third time in three weeks. I came in this morning to find the door open, blasting out hot air, and building staff hauling big fans in.

It appears we have a serious issue with the air con and nobody has fixed it yet. Well, this doesn't have "Potential Disaster" written all over it!

I'm so happy that our server room keeps trying to melt or catch fire when I'm at T minus 17 days to Deployment Day Take 2. My confidence levels in this endeavour are ASTOUNDING. Also, we discovered something new and exciting that's breaking in the web app because the way certain things in the web app are coded make no sense. Luckily I've already managed to find a workaround. We just need to add some extra lines of code to fifty reports...

*headdesk*

And this afternoon I ended up having an extended rant about foreign keys in data warehouses and the idiocy of the fact that WE DON'T HAVE THE SAME FORGEIGN KEYS IN EACH TEST ENVIRONMENT. You haven't known torture until you're running the same script for the tenth time and finding *another* unexpected FK that wasn't in any of the other damn environments so you have to hunt it down and work out what the hell to delete to stop the database complaining about child records again.

Never get me started on the insanity that is foreign keys in data warehouses. I CAN GO ON FOR HOURS.

So glad this hellishly long day is over.


In other news...

Today I am woeful for there is no showing of Much Ado anywhere in my province. The cinema listings came out for the weekend and...nothing. Not even at our little arthouse cinema. Maybe the little arthouse cinema will show it in a few weeks?

I'm not going to hold my breath on that.

Hopefully there will be a DVD release.

On the brighter side, that work of cinematic genius "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" arrived yesterday :-D Watching it this weekend will be my reward for getting my AO3 auction fic edited and sent for beta. If the editing isn't done, I don't get to enjoy Hansel in a tree.

I read your FUBAR to my husband, who's in IT, and he's like "yeah, vague familiarity". It is a sucky situation, and I'm sorry there's no "Much Ado" to make it better, but H&G will! Good luck on the fic!

H&G will definitely make a lot of things better :-D The fic is more than half done now and I've started to get to the parts where there are fewer notes because I was finally settling in and working out how to write the fic. Which always helps. There's one place where an entirely new extra scene is needed but I think that's the only major revision left.
