Jan. 14th, 2013 01:35 pmI slept in on Saturday because I suddenly hit a wall of exhaustion in the middle of last week. So when I woke up with my lower back stiff and painful, I put it down to having been lying down for too long. This has been an issue for me for years.
When I woke up yesterday with my back a touch stiffer and more painful, I decided to obey the red flags and hopped onto my exercise bike for an hour. I've not been as diligent lately with my exercise schedule so I thought that was the issue: back stiffening up due to lack of exercise.
This morning it was even more ick when I got up. And unlike my normal inflammatory back pain, it didn't get better after my nice hot shower and gentle stretching routine. In fact, it's worse right now than it was when I got up and I just had great difficulty standing up from my office chair.
*sigh*
Way I see it, there are three options:
1) My inflammatory arthritis (query ankylosing spondylitis) is returning. I had a couple of days of tummy upset last week and some other tummy issues. Plus I hit that sudden exhaustion wall at the same time. So there is a chance that my colitis is just starting to flare up again and bringing the inflammatory arthritis with it. Unfortunately this would mean I'm failing Humira :-( I got my bloodwork done last week and I see Awesome GI Guy on Thursday for what was going to be just a check-in, but will now probably be a full exam to see whether I'm flaring or whether I'm just feeling ick for no reason.
2) Musclar something or other. This feels different from my last bout of inflammatory ickness so it's possible that this is muscular. If it continues to get worse, I've got some Flexeril that I can try to see whether it helps. In the event that Flexeril helps, I may need to see my GP about getting more and getting some physio. Blergh, I hate physio.
3) Slipped disc. Frankly, this is the least likely on my list but as my Dad has this issue I can't rule it out completely. But there's no sciatica right now so I'm thinking it's a very, very low possibility.
With a month to go before I have a long trans-Atlantic flight, I'm very much hoping this is a blip and not the start of another year-long back pain saga.
I finally watched the first episode of Dollhouse yesterday (yay Netflix!) and I was very impressed. Not just because I have a minor (hah!) crush on Eliza Dushku, I was impressed because it's such a weird, uncomfortable premise and yet Joss is making it work and I want to know more. All hail Joss.
Speaking of the marvelous Joss, everything that gets leaked about the new SHIELD show is taking my excitement to higher levels. I'm trying to keep my squee low so that I'm not disappointed if it doesn't match the thing in my head, but...yeah. My squee levels are getting silly.
This week is hopefully going to be quiet and filled with reading, writing and plenty of time with my DVD pile and the baby blanket I'm making. In an ideal world, by the end of this week I'll have a completed circus AU fic, two books finished and I'll be officially past the quarter of the way mark on the blanket.
Let's see how life can fuck with that plan, OK?

Date: 2013-01-14 11:56 pm (UTC)It took me awhile to get Topher, but then it took me a while to get Nolan from Revenge, and I may be the first person to put them into a crossover...
BTW I'm not sure if you've seen Homicide: Life on the Street but if so I'm convinced that post-show Tim went to work for the Baltimore Dollhouse...

Date: 2013-01-15 01:22 am (UTC)I'm watching via Netflix streaming, so whichever one that is? It made sense and got me hooked, so it's pretty good. I actually like Topher a lot already although I don't understand him. I'm looking forward to finding out more about him.
I haven't seen Homicide :-D It's another thing on my Big List of Things I Must Watch Someday.
