Dear author,
Firstly, you're writing a fic just for me so don't worry because I'm going to love it. Seriously, that is a given and I'm already flailing about it :-D
I'm pretty easy-going with fic reading. Provided it doesn't contain my absolute, hard, no no no squicks, there's not much that I won't love. My biggest joy is from fics that have a bit of plot and a bit of character stuff. Whether it's fluff, adventure, romance, drama or complete crack, I love it.
The things that I really don't read are death fics, horribly tragic fics, BDSM and other extreme kinks, and mpreg. So, you know, the standard things :-D
So, having said all that you might be looking for some specific guidance. My sign-up optional details are a fairly complete precis of what would make me flail madly, but here you go:
Mission Impossible (movies)
When I got bullied into watching MI4, it was the snarky developing friendship between Brandt and Benji that I fell for. I could rewatch their "And I'll catch you" conversation on the plane many times over and because it's just wonderful. Benji so smart, Brandt so...ah...dubious about pretty much everything.
So a fic that captures that, whether on a mission or not, would make me squee like a crazy thing. Go wherever you want with it, I'll be happy if there's snark and bitching and tech gone wrong and Brandt being Brandt :-D
Call the Midwife
The highlight of the first series, for me, was Chummy. She was so cheerful no matter what life threw at her and so determined to do the right thing and be a good midwife. Her background should have made her the running joke of the show but she turned out to be the heart of it and I fell for her.
So anything about Chummy would be lovely, whether it's a work story or something about her friendship with the other midwives or about adjusting to marriage, which I can easily imagine won't be easy for her.
If Chummy doesn't inspire you, I'd love something about Jennifer and Trixie. I don't mind whether you go for femslash or just friendship, if you've got them being delightful together then I'll be incredibly happy.
Parasol Protectorate - Gail Carriger
If Gail Carriger decided to write the "All Biffy/Lyall, all the time" book then I'd probably wurble and flail and love her forever. This relationship was the highlight of the series for me and my only sadness was that there wasn't enough about them.
OK, it's possible that even if Heartless had been entirely about them that wouldn't have been enough. I'm greedy like that. They are so wonderful and I was shipping them before it became canon so you can only imagine how happy I was when it became canon.
Really, anything about these two will make me happy. Further adventures, fluffy domesticity, comic crack, it will all result in squee from me.
I hope you have fun writing your yuletide fic and I can't wait to see what the results are!
Your grateful recipient,
Selenay.
