So near, yet so far
Mar. 21st, 2005 10:37 pmThe archery club had their trip out to the local archery shop tonight. Sadly, I was the only person who couldn't buy a bow :-( The shop didn't have limbs in of the right lengh and draw weight - although we did at least narrow down what I need so it should be easier to fit me now. Apparently I need a 66 inch bow for my height. The 26 pound draw was much too heavy - I struggled to get it to full draw - and the 20 pound was too light. So I obviously need something in between, which the shop doesn't have at the moment. They're going to get some limbs down from one of their other shops and email me when they're in so that I can make a return trip. On the one hand I hadn't really intended to buy the bow tonight anyway, but on the other hand I had the money and it would have been good to finally have my own kit. Hopefully I'll be sorted out in a couple of weeks, though, just as the indoor season is ending and I have to adjust to the whole outdoor shooting concept. Eek.
I did pick up a brace and tab so that I don't have to spend half an hour getting straps adjusted to fit properly on club ones each week. And my lovely father gave me a lift over (I think he was afraid that I'd get hopelessly lost and end up in Scotland), which meant that he got to see the shop and watch me shoot a bit. He was terribly impressed that I got a gold. Hell, I was terribly impressed that I got a gold. It was with the light bow, but it bodes well for my consistency improving a lot when I've got my own equipment.
We may make a decent archer of me yet :-)
Had a very enjoyable weekend. Went out rambling and photographing with Mom on Saturday morning (macro lenses yay!), following that up with three very enjoyable rugby matches in the afternoon. Went for another ramble on Sunday with the family and a friend, walked much further than I should have and thoroughly enjoyed it. Hopefully I'll get at least a couple of nice days over the Easter break so that I can have some more rambling/photography sessions. How is that I'm suddenly so much more active than I ever used to be? Rambling. Sport. Much outdoorsness. I really need to get back to my usual slobby, always reading persona :-)
