Stuff and other stuff
Sep. 28th, 2011 10:49 pmIt's possible that I slightly lost it at work this morning.
My day started out well: I slept well, my headache finally went away thanks to sleep and co-codamol, the atmosphere is cooler and less humid and I even made it to work a few minutes early with a smile on my face.
Then I got told something about one of the outstanding bugs and went slightly crazy for a moment. There was a swear word. Everyone ducked for cover.
After a couple of hours of meetings and discussions, we figured out a way to fix the bug that won't require extensive re-coding of everything and hopefully will still allow the tester to test the bug fixes on Friday. So the release is still on schedule and so is my vacation.
It appears that there is a stage when I stop coping and today was when I reached it. Thank goodness I'd had some sleep or I would have just cried instead of getting angry. Hopefully everything from now on is going to go smoothly and I'll start to feel less stressed.
Yeah, I like my fantasy and I want to stay in it :-)
Perdito Street Station is finally done. Phew! Although it's a good book and I enjoyed it, I wouldn't say it's an easy book or one for casual reading. Many ideas, a lot of disturbing stuff and some very complex connections. Am I glad that I read it? Yes. Would I read it again? Probably, but not for a long time.
Do I want to read something much lighter next? Oh, yes.
I think that I'm too brain-fried for deep thinky things. Not that I want to wade through total candy, but something with some substance (that doesn't require deep thought) and lots of thrills is about where I am. Preferably with no disturbing imagery, thank you. My mind needs a rest.
Tonight I shall mainline more Downton Abbey. It's exactly what my brain needs.
I've been browsing around for fanfic. Would it be too much for authors to put a teeny summary on their stuff? I'm picky and if I don't have a hint about it, I'm not going to click through to see what it is even if it's in a fandom that I read.
Somehow, I have a feeling that in fifty years people will still be debating the merits of summaries and warnings on fanfic.
