Why yes, I have lost my mind :-)

It's been a weird day at work. I blame the bake sale. All that sugar sent us loopy. Or maybe it was the prospect of an amazing deal on a TV that sent one of my colleagues loopy and she infected the rest of us. Personally, I'm at the stage of total exhaustion where it's either be hysterical in a funny sense or hysterical in a crying in the corner sense. Today I have opted for being funny :-)

Last night, during one of my brief moments of dozing, I meta-dreamed. I dreamed about having a nightmare. My brain is such a weird place sometimes.

I'm struggling with a book right now: Kushiel's Dart. It is basically a very long PWP masquerading as a fantasy novel. I'm on chapter 11 and still haven't found any plot although the pr0n is plentiful. I'm really not sure that I can read another 750 pages of pure PWP. Not because I'm a prude, but it's mainly fairly boring and did I mention that there is some rather fluorescent purple prose in places?

Am I a bad person for wanting to give up and hide in a good, meaty, plot-filled mystery?

ETA: And now we've hit the BDSM. OK, I give in, this is not my thing. 1920's-set mystery novel it is! /ETA

I'm going out for supper tonight. My local breakfast/lunch place (best French toast EVA!) is trialling opening for suppers on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. So far it's just for August, but I think they'll keep it going if it's successful. We're checking it out tonight. Their fishcakes are reputedly amazing and I can never get there for lunch, so I plan to try 'em out tonight.

ETA: OMG, yummiest supper ever. Totally making this our regular Friday night thing so we can try everything on the menu. The fishcakes were the best I've ever made and next week I need to try the pasta - she makes her own sausage for it!

I was so disappointed by that book! I like kinky pr0n, and epic fantasy, but the way she combined them was just *boring*. Such a shame. :( But 1920s mystery sounds promising! What is it? :)

Yup, had lots of elements that should have been good but somehow she made them dull. I really cannot figure it out, either.

The mystery is Maise Dobbs. Well, Birds of a Feather which is the second book in the series. I enjoyed the first muchly and have been hooked in the second on the third page, which is always a good sign.

I'm trying to remember how long Kushiel's Dart took to go from the slow business of setting up the environment and getting the protagonist grown and trained and introducing the characters, to having the protagonist suddenly sold into slavery in barbarian lands with a dead mentor to avenge and an impending invasion to warn the queen about. I think in the later books she winds up finding trouble earlier on, but if you're not enjoying the world-building and the porn then I can see there not being much point to going on with it.
