Of storms and tacos
Aug. 3rd, 2011 08:01 pmWe had an incredible storm last night. I'm talking massive thunderclaps, fork lightning, torrential rain, the works. And it lasted for hours.
Nobody can remember a storm like it for a long time. I'm just glad that nothing too bad got damaged - the lightning was definitely hitting things! It was so cool, though. Mum and I watched it for a long time because the effects were amazing.
Somehow, we didn't lose power except for a few flickers and a ten second blip. It's probably because we'd eaten early and made preparations so that our evening (and this morning) could go smoothly even if we lost power. You only lose power when you're not prepared for it. Another storm alert got issued today, for another potential big thunderstorm this afternoon. Canada, you produce some interesting weather!
Tacos last night were a roaring success and we plan to do them again. Probably next week: the kit feeds four so we have half the meat prepared and in the freezer, ready to be defrosted and reheated next week. Om nom. Why didn't we do these years ago?
So far, my day is going pretty well. I'm sure this has nothing to do with the donuts that Boss J bought us. He only visits our office every two weeks and has to drive past a very nice market to get here. On his last two trips, he was travelling with other people and couldn't stop. Today he was alone so he stopped and bought donuts. Yummy.
Sometimes I worry about how closely my emotional state is tied to the availability of really good food and my ability to eat it. Then I decide that this is probably not a problem after all and find a new recipe to try :-)
