Try to guess which option my company has gone for? I do not feel appreciated by this.

In other stuff...

Oh, Holby City writers, why did you do that?

Penny! My beloved Penny! Why did you do that? Why couldn't you finally have Penny triumph over the odious Ollie, shown to be an excellent doctor from the get-go rather than remembered as the one who wasn't quite bright enough but pulled her socks up eventually?

Why does Ollie have to get his get out of jail free card again?

I mean, sure, there's some potential for excellent drama with Ollie's guilt over it all. It's just that Ollie is a whiny, snivelly, silly little boy at the best of times and this isn't going to help. Also, his one moment of being a decent doctor does not outweigh the fact that he's a terrible doctor 99% of the time and will be even worse now that he can't crib off Penny all the time.

Mostly, though, I'm just annoyed that one of my favourite characters has been written out (without even a good death scene) just as some excellent story-lines looked to be opening up for her. It could have been excellent.

Now I'm going to have to spend weeks watching Ollie being even more selfish, stupid and annoying than he normally is. Argh.

Every now and again, Holby, you make me want to break up with you.

Except you also gave me an excellent Jac story-line in that episode and I can already see that the whole Jac as consultant, threatened with the closure of her department, story-line is going to be fab.

Damn you, Holby, and your addictive ways.

It appears that yet again someone said something stupid on the internet - and possibly in print? - about epic fantasy (the entire fantasy genre, apparently) being "boys fiction" and completely unappealing to girls. She's probably regretting that about now, as thousands of women have spent the last few days writing about why they love fantasy, what they love, and pointing out that a large number of female authors would be shocked to discover they've based their career on writing "boy's fiction".

Heh.

Nobody is surprised that I read epic fantasy, right? I mean, "Game of Thrones" isn't my cup of tea, but that's a personal taste thing. I don't have to love *every* fantasy epic out there. I've even heard rumours of fantasy fans who don't like Lord of the Rings.

The majority of my female friends love fantasy fiction. There are few of the fantasy sub-genres that I don't love, although the vampire/werewolf stuff usually doesn't interest me unless it's got something else to go with it. See Gail Carriger for a good example :-)

One day, someone is going to actually think before they write about how women don't like science fiction and fantasy and they won't hit 'send'. Hopefully that day won't come too soon, though, because it's so much fun to read all the meta that those daft articles inspire :-)

I don't mind light sci fi and love urban fantasy. I like some more medieval fantasy as well but again nothing too heavy. I read to get away from it all. I enjoy stories about werewolves, vampires etc as long as they are well written (see Kelley Armstrong).

Also I loved the Hobbit but was completely unable to read Lord of the Rings. So now you know a fantasy lover who doesn't like it :) I won't even watch the movies, it's too epic for me, too broad, not enough about the individual people.
