Last night was Yoga Night. Why, yes, I am quite anaemic from blood loss and still working out regularly :-)

I'm trying to maintain a routine of one yoga class a week (75 minutes, gentle yoga for bad backs) plus 30 minutes of something else two or three times a week. Mostly that is 30 minutes of Wii Fit, but it has also been Wii Tennis and may shortly also be Wii Zumba. It may sound crazy to be working out (even fairly gently) when my body is trying to bleed out, but I'm working on several fronts here:

1) I cannot do anything about the IBD, except figure out the correct meds, but this is something that I can control.

2) It makes me feel good about myself and makes me feel stronger

3) Working out improves my joint strength and flexbility, both important due to the EDS and the inflammatory arthritis that the stupid bowel disease causes

4) It's a good gauge for how bad the anemia is. Right now, I'm only lightheaded when I go from sitting (or bending) to standing too fast. When it gets bad, I won't be able to do any of the stuff I'm currently doing so I'll know

5) When the medication has the bleeding stopped, I want to be in good enough condition to go out and do things. Thus, I need to keep my fitness levels up

6) Sometimes, working out stimulates my appetite and as I currently have very little appetite, this can only be a good thing.

So, yes, Yoga Night. My usual teacher wasn't there last night so we had a sub. She was OK, but seemed a little lost in what she was trying to achieve so it wouldn't have been a helpful one for a first-timer. The usual teacher is very good about noting how people with different back problems should adjust each exercise/pose to avoid putting pressure on the problem regions. For example, a few of the positions should not be attempted by anyone with a slipped disc. Despite that, it was still a nice class and I felt nicely loosened and just the right level of tired by the end. I'm really loving the yoga thing.

I have nothing really planned this weekend, so I suspect that I may spend some time in the kitchen. When I'm not reading or picking up groceries, of course. There is likely to be shepherd's pie on Saturday, because I can make it up in little foil things and freeze it for yummy easy meals on knit night. It is also likely that I shall bake. I've got my eye on a recipe for Sachertorte in my Green and Black's book...
