I promise, no medical discussion here today. Still feeling good and I'm kind of bored with contemplating the inner workings of my immune system :-)

So, what have I been up to for the last few weeks?

Obviously, there hasn't been a huge amount of getting out and about, so I've been doing lots of DVD watching and book reading. The most significant part of that is the complete Ashes to Ashes re-watch, in preparation for the panel that I'm on at Redemption. At the moment I'm mid-way through season 2 and on course to easily fit the other episodes in before I leave.

It's a good thing that I did do this re-watch. I'd completely forgotten how season 1 ended so it was a huge, shocking thing all over again. It reminded me of why I loved Ashes to Ashes. No, it's not quite as smart as Life on Mars but it manages to pack quite a punch and twist in unexpected ways anyway. I had managed to remember that something big happened to resolve the Super Mack storyline midway through season 2, but had also forgotten about the Operation Rose thing. Re-watching was definitely needed!

Also, the opening credits make me grin hugely every time because they're *so* eighties! Love 'em.

As of last night, I am two episodes behind on Holby and one episode behind on Larkrise. Mum is also a Holby and Larkrise fan, so we'll probably be doing some catch-up. It seems to be character shake-up time on Holby so I've now lost three favourite characters since Christmas: let's hope the new characters are enjoyable replacements. Not keen on Malik so far, but then again I hated Connie initially and she's been one of my consistent favourites over the last few years.

There have also been books. Unfortunately, some of the books haven't been that great :-( But some have been, so it's not all bad.

The first Septimus Heap book (Magyk, by Angie Sage) came up for free on Kindle so I grabbed it because it was on my wishlist of books to read. I'm very glad that I didn't pay for it, that's all I'll say.

More successfully, I've devoured the first two books in Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy and plan to put the third onto my Kindle for the England trip. Loved them.

I quite enjoyed the February 2011 edition of Asimov's magazine and I've got March 2011 on the Kindle ready to go.

Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey is currently standing out as my best read of January and is a strong contender for the 2011 greats list. I trudged my way through Diana Gabaldon's Outlander because a friend loves it and concluded that I really never need to see that book again.

Currently I'm in the middle of Sense and Sensibility (Jane Austen) for a group read and trying to decide whether I'm in the mood for Regency romance (Cotillion, Georgette Heyer) or mystery (From Doon with Death, Ruth Rendell) as my Kindle read. When S&S is done, I think that I'll be cracking open Soulless by Gail Carrigan because so many people have been raving about it and it's one of my few unread Christmas books.

I note that most US TV shows are now out of hiatus this week, so I need to find some time to watch a few things before I go to England so that the PVR doesn't explode while I'm gone. Two weeks until England!
