Dear Yuletide Writer
Nov. 17th, 2010 05:26 pmDear Yuletide Writer,
I am not hard to please. If you write something in either of my three requested fandoms, I shall probably be over the moon. The only things that I really don't enjoy are tragic endings, deaths of favourite characters and the squicky things like rape.
My big love is stories with plot and drama that also have some nice character development. I understand that not everyone likes writing meaty stories like that, though, so a nice fluffy vignette would make me equally happy. A writer who is writing what they enjoy tends to produce better stuff that a writer forcing themselves to write way outside their normal parameters.
If you want some better, more specific guidelines, here you go:
Holby City
Prompt: # Penny Valentine,
# Frieda Petrenko,
# Romantic Friendship,
# F/F,
# General Audiences
I love Frieda and Penny's relationship on-screen, particularly Penny's attempts to discover Frieda's background and why she is no longer a doctor. Something that delves into that with a crisis in AAU as a background would be my Christmas dream. Whether they end up together or not doesn't matter massively to me (although it would be nice), it's the friendship and relationship that I love.
I've asked for Holby every time I've done Yuletide and nobody has ever been matched to me on Holby. So, really, if you write any fic at all for Holby that has Penny and/or Frieda in it then I might cry from happiness.
More specifically, though, Penny and Frieda have been my big draws for the last few months. Penny is a much better doctor than she thinks that she is and Frieda has that wonderfully mysterious background. They vary between antagonism and tentative friendship, although I think the friendship is getting closer. Frieda seems determined to help Penny to be a better doctor and Penny is equally determined that Frieda shouldn't waste her talents. Something exploring this would be lovely - you can cheerfully ignore any canon that happens between now and Christmas because you'll never finish you story if you don't!
This being Holby, it would be nice if it was set against something crisisy happening at the hospital, but I'd be just as happy with a Penny-and-Frieda-stuck-in-the-basement thing as well. Femslash would also be lovely, but I'm equally happy with frienship because what I really love is these two characters and the way that they influence each other.
Nina's Heavenly Delights
Prompt: # Nina Shah,
# Lisa Mackinlay,
# Romance,
# F/F,
# General Audiences
Food and love, the combination made this movie for me. I'd love to have a peek at what happens next.
Honestly, this is on my list because I spotted it on the list, realised that it could be a fandom and couldn't resist. It's a movie that I love because it has a beautiful lesbian romance and it leaves me craving really good food every time I watch. It's a rare one because hardly any lesbian romances have a happy ending and I love happy endings. Any fic that carries on the themes of love and food will make me very happy. I'd love to see what happens to Nina and Lisa next and how they make their relationship work with all the other elements in their lives.
Bend It Like Beckham
Prompt: # Jess Bhamra,
# Jules Paxton,
# Romantic Friendship,
# F/F,
# General Audiences
Jess and Jules and the potential in their relationship is what keeps me coming back to this film so often. A story set in their first months in America, about adjusting and figuring themselves out, would be perfect. A romance would have bonus points for me!
I feel slightly guilty about putting this one in because I've had a couple of great Jess/Jules fics in the past in other ficathons. Thing is, I still adore them and there simply isn't enough good, plotty romance fic out there for them. That's what I really want, a plotty romance fic that leaves me with a happy smile at the end.
Wow, I really got rambly on Holby there. Can you tell that I'm lamenting the severe lack of Holby City fic?
