Post of flaily flailness
Jun. 7th, 2010 10:01 amSo, something I may have mentioned briefly yesterday is insomnia.
I'm prone to it. Have been since I was a kid. My usual sleep routine isn't a problem, because I go to sleep reasonably quickly and only wake up three or four times through the night.
Yes, that doesn't sound fun. But for me, that's a normal night. I cope on that. I catch up a bit at weekends and feel pretty normal, if fairly exhausted at the end of a moderately busy week.
For the last week and a bit, I've been in Super Insomnia (TM) mode. This means that I'm lying awake for a while (with my brain going bing! bing! bing! no matter what I do) for quite a while before going to sleep. Then I wake up.
Every twenty minutes or so.
All night.
Sleeping longer (as I did yesterday) just means that I doze a few more times and get a really sore neck. At a best guess, I've been averaging around three (maybe four) hours of sleep a night in twenty minute burst for the last week. Oddly, I don't feel so great.
On Friday I went to work even though I knew that I wasn't safe enough to drive. On Saturday I got up bright and early to go to my yoga class, which exhausted me physically and got my head quieter for a while. I felt pretty good through Saturday and had crazy thoughts about maybe getting a good night's sleep.
Yeah.
Yesterday I tried the 'taking a long bath using a lavender-scented Lush bath bomb' routine, with some time afterwards quietly reading and drinking valerian tea. That's got to do the trick, right?
Um.
It's possible that I *might* have slept for three hours last night. At one point, I might have stayed asleep for over half an hour. Go me! Three of my wake-ups involved waking up in the middle of a nasty nightmare, which really didn't help. So I feel terrible today, the weather is out there looks like The Great Flood and I definitely don't think that I can drive today.
So I'm working from home like a good, sensible girl. I'm also concluding that the headache and nausea yesterday evening may not have been entirely due to lack of calories (er, forgot to eat...) and sleep. It got cleared up by my migraine stuff and today I'm having a bit of a headache with some vision problems (partially blind in the right eye) which all points to me being in the middle of a sneaky migraine.
Is it weird that I'm praying the insomnia was the build-up to a migraine and that later today the migraine will totally flatten me and make me sleep?

Date: 2010-06-07 01:15 pm (UTC)Not at all. After about three days of insomnia I'm usually praying for a passing germ to come along and knock me out. After a week I'll attempt to lick anyone who passes me with a sniffle.
I don't want to say that I hope your migraine flattens you, but I do hope you get a good nights sleep one way or another.

Date: 2010-06-07 01:36 pm (UTC)I'm not sure that I can cope with being sick, exhausted and listening to "bang-smash!" for hours.
All I want is eight hours of uninterrupted sleep. I suspect that wishing for it is why it's unachievable right now.

Date: 2010-06-09 11:20 am (UTC)Someone suggested I might have FM, and I admit, I do have many of the symptoms. So ... I'll be hunting down an appt with an appropriate doctor. *loves* Hope your brain doesn't go boom, so to speak, and that it more reasonably just shuts off for a while. I think we all need a power reboot. ;)
