Stargate Universe (no spoilers)

I was in two minds about whether to watch this because so many Stargate fans were vehemently opposed to it. In fact, I've seen so many people discussing a boycott that I got a bit sick of all the kerfuffle.

That may actually be part of the reason I decided to watch it. I love my fellow fans, but I also think they can bit a bit blind and bit over-zealous about some things.

So I watched the first episode, not sure what it would be like, and I've been pleasantly surprised. I think it may actually be quite good! First episodes are tricky to do well but I enjoyed it and it wasn't too obviously a first episode. There is a lot of potential, the writing was decent and the characters are interesting. There's plenty of room for it to fall down horribly (SG is so good at doing that), but I'm actually quite optimistic.

I was definitely left wanting to see what happens next week, which is a good sign.

Wow, I had no idea there was a kerfuffle about this! Perhaps because I was just avoiding it on the basis that I was going to watch it whatever information there is. Plus I pretty much ignore Stargate fandom anyway :)

I didn't think much of the first episode, it felt too long and dragged out. But right at the end it made me feel more optimistic for the rest of the series. And I'll be better able to tell whether I like it or not once I see some normal episodes, and not introducing ones.

I had deja vu with the kerfuffle and am plain ignoring it - just as I did when Stargate Atlantis came along. Had the discussion with a fellow con goer yesterday lunchtime and we agreed best to ignore the doomsayers and all, whether you like something or not is very much down to your own taste/opinion.

Personally I'm not taking too much notice of SGU stuff at the moment, no point until getting too interested now because I'm not going to see it until whenever the DVDs are released. Can't be bothered now with hunting downloads either, I'll see it when I see it.
