Star Trek and other stuff
May. 6th, 2009 11:59 amI have a dilemma. Star Trek is showing at 6.30pm or 9.50pm at my local cinema. Or there is 7pm, but that's a digital projection. Two questions:
1. What the heck does this digital projection thing do? Is it better than normal? Is this the showing everyone would recommend?
2. If I don't go to that one, is 6.30 or 9.50 the better option? Earlier doesn't give me a huge amount of time to go home, get food and get back to the cinema. Later might result in accidental sleeping. Third option is earlier showing and grab some food at a restaurant near the theatre, which I'm leaning towards heavily.
Ack, decisions! Plus, I've only once been to a cinema on my own so this is all new territory for me. But I'm doing it for Star Trek. There is no one I know who will watch it with me (without me driving 45 minutes through rush hour traffic, anyway) and going on my own guarantees that I'll actually see it.
And, er, leaves me room to go for a repeat viewing later if it's good enough :-)
OMG, need to book tickets tonight! Make decision!
I'm going to see Star Trek!
In more boring news...
The knuckle joint of my little finger is aching. I suspect that this is muscle ache due to the angle that I must hold it in at this desk to type. My new keyboard tray and other OT-prescribed gadgets cannot arrive soon enough.
However, the new monitors have arrived. Yay! I've got a 22" widescreen monitor. It is blindingly bright and I haven't yet figured out how to adjust it to a reasonable comfort level. It's also washing out a lot of colours so I don't think it's just me! Or possibly this is how things are supposed to look and it's been so long since I had a correctly calibrated monitor that I've forgotten what it looks like. Suspect that it's the monitor because Ravelry doens't normally look that washed out at home.
The monster headache that I've had since Friday is still here, so that's definitely not monitor-induced. I think that's tiredness induced. I very nearly didn't get up for work this morning. Ick.

Date: 2009-05-06 03:44 pm (UTC)I've been reading up and I'm leaning towards the digital projection option right now...
Hmm, I guess this means no knit night for you? Imagine, missing knitting to go on a date. What are you thinking? ;-)

Date: 2009-05-07 01:07 pm (UTC)Summer tests should be starting in a month or two - British Lions touring down under and playing the southern hemisphere teams. They're some of the best players in the world, so the matches could be excellent. I'm thinking barbeque and rugby could make a fun afternoon :-)

Date: 2009-05-06 06:32 pm (UTC)I like your restaurant logic. I had a very confused reservation taker 'cause I booked for ONE (but dear god, I've been hanging around in that place for 2hrs waiting for a 2-seater to become available - and that's midweek!). X-D
5.5hrs (SQUEEEEEEE!) and I'm going to take my time. Res isn't 'til 9. I'm going to have a very long dinner WITH a large Manhattan and wander my way over for 10:30pm at the earliest. I promise - a FULL REPORT as soon as I get back!
Deduct 4?? My god, that's practically Ireland!!

Date: 2009-05-06 07:01 pm (UTC)My restaurant logic comes from the last time I tried to do work->food->cinema and they were only just serving us fifteen minutes before the film was supposed to start. Cue gulping, irritability at the slowness of their payments system and barely getting there before the credits finished. Grrr. I want to saunter at my leisure to the film and have time to enjoy all the trailers. Plus I want to eat my food in dignity :-)
Four hours! Eeee! I shall read your full report, but spoiler markers would be good for anything really cool :-)
I'm nearly in Ireland....except for the six hour plane ride :-) The province next door has their own private time zone. That is all you need to know about Newfies.

Date: 2009-05-07 03:35 am (UTC)After all the booking this and that and everything. I walked in and the place was empty. X-D I did have 2hrs to savour a gorgeous meal and still don't feel inclined to nibble 7hrs later. :-D
I've cut EVERYTHING except 'OMG EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!' though after seeing the trailer, I'm probably going to have to see Transformers 2 in the cinema too... Unless I fancy seeing Star Trek again first. In which case, Michael Bay's shit outta luck! :-D
Dude, on the National Express I'm 6hrs from LONDON. First time I went to NYC I was like '8hrs? Meh. That's a bus ride to Devon.' :-D

Glad you got to savour your meal and enjoy the experience :-) Gorgeous meal plus fab movie plus leisurely experience is totally the way to go. I've got my ticket booked (7pm tomorrow) and a rough game plan that should hopefully be leisurely and sauntering with enough contingency time to counter-act any problems with getting a table at the restaurant.
My one big concern is how long the line will be at the screen. I hate sitting in the front row - prefer to be in the middle or towards the back so that I don't have to crane my neck to see the screen and I can see the entire screen without turning my head all the time. Can't book actual seats at my cinema so I've got to hope that people won't be too crazy about it. Half an hour before the movie starts should be early enough if there is a line, surely?
Heh, I used to live thirty minutes from London so for me a six hour ride anywhere seems like a loooooong way. When you put it that way, I live positively next door to you!

Hopefully I'll have my projector up n' running by the time the DVD's out (expect it'll be an Xmas release) and ASDA are currently doing BluRay players for £170. My living room is going to be THE place to be for this annnnnnnd Transformers 2.
I hope you have an AWESOME night tonight and all the food and queues fall in your favour. *snugs*
I currently live 45mins from Liverpool, 30 from Chester and ANY chance of getting to anywhere else in less than a day is non-existent. We DO live next door - you're in Canada's Devon! :-D
