Weekend TV
Mar. 30th, 2009 08:05 amI think that I'll put it all under a spoiler cut, just in case anyone on my f-list hasn't seen Robin Hood yet.
Oh, Robin, you have bulked up slightly and suddenly the angsty thing is working for you. I suspect that it's the new haircut and the replacement of the hoodie with proper outlaw leather that's helping. You look older than 12. Congratulations!
Guy, I don't know what to say. The season 2 biker leathers fitted much better and looked far more bad ass than the black/red combo you're currently sporting. When you add in the long hair - and it's floofy, girly hair at that - and loss of eyeliner you suddenly, er, don't look Guy-ish. It's like you and Robin have swapped personas. Brooding and angst are simply not working for you anymore. You look more like one of the less-convincing villains from the original Highlander movie. I know that it's probably to differenciate between Guy and your Spooks character, but can we have the S2 Guy look back please?
Allan, I think I prefered you when you were a devious traitor. Just sayin'.
Little John, I'd have more to say if they'd actually done something with you. Someone, give John a plot, please?
Much, I still think you are the best thing about RH :-)
Friar Tuck, you do not convince me. At all. Please to be getting better plots later.
As for the trailer...
Kate? The Marian-lite is called Kate? Leaving aside the fact that she's named after my cat, the brief glance does not look promising. In fact, she looked and sounded like a stroppy teenager. Please let this just be a bad trailer, not a really bad character.
Also, I think that I've worked out why the Merlin opening credits look so familiar. Someone took the eye close-up section of the RH credits and recoloured it, didn't they? Suppose it saves money...
In conclusion, while RH is quite shiny and fun, my heart has been stolen by Merlin. Still, the BBC is doing a good job with that slot overall.
I am very happy that Larkrise will be back, having finally seen the season finale yesterday. It's all golden and summery and lovely, so great Sunday night viewing.
Also, I must now live without Time Team until next year. Poo. I like my archaeology show, especially the episodes where what they find isn't what they thought they'd fine. It's worth it just for Phil's ability to find flint at every site.
I had been wonderging what I'd watch on Sundays without Time Team and Larkrise (because there is nothing worth watching on TV here on Sundays - why??), but now I've discovered that there is RH and No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency to watch and thus my problems are solved for a few weeks :-)
A lady at my church has invited me to her place for supper on Easter Sunday. She didn't like the idea of me not having family to go to :-) On the one hand it sounds like a blast so I've said yes, OTOH I realised as I drove home from church that the Doctor Who special is airing that day. I shall be good and not back out just because of a TV show.
Even if it is Doctor Who.

Date: 2009-03-30 05:21 pm (UTC)Is it bad that I've spent 2 seasons whining about everyone other than Guy, and now I've seen the alternative, I'd like nothing more than Robin, Much, Allan and John on their own in the forest, and Vasey and Guy on their own in the castle for a season of good vs evil, holier than thou vs arch, and some awesome character development for all the regulars? I know I'm probably fretting about nothing, but I felt everyone was pretty much reduced to cameo, which worries me when I know there's Kate, Isabella and Prince John yet to come. :-S
I like Guy's new look... As long as the wig stays wet and lank and faintly Aragornish. Dry, and he starts to look like a King Charles spaniel. *shakes box of dog biscuits* And I hope he wanders around in the tight black trews and lace up shirt more often than the bondage jacket (which would be pretty damned EPIC if it was plain brown/black leather with chainmail sleeves) too. I noticed he's been upgraded from eyeliner to eyeshadow, woe. :-\
Allan: I pray he goes back to being a traitorous bastard (he was interesting and FUN then, dammit!), but the clothes are an improvement.
I'm keeping optimistic, or trying to. It's... My show. It might not be my comfy-shoes show. But... *lip quiver* GUY! *clings*

But...but...the hair *whines* On Aragorn the wet, tangled look works. And while I admit that it works better than the froofy-girl dry hair, it's still just not right. I want to the short hair and good eyeliner back. The shirt did work very well, but I want the biker jacket back if he's going to wear a jacket because that red/black filligree thing just looks like he's playing dress-up with someone else's wardobe.
I liked Allan's wardrobe in the second half of S3. He looks like a puppy dog again now. And he needs a good plot, damn it.
Hell, everyone barring Robin needs a good plot. He gets all the plot. Let someone else have a go!
I'm keeping optomistic. After all, I thought Merlin would be terrible, and it turned out to be the most cracktastically wonderful thing I saw all year. There is always hope :-)

But... But... It gives Allan something to grab hold of during blistering hot make-up sex! That surely is enough to vote Guy of Greystoke?!
I like the neckline on the new jacket, don't like the studding, colour combination or the shoulder pads. Thanks to the bits I didn't like I yelled "Fucking hell, it's Alexis Carrington!" at one point.
I like the fact Allan's wardrobe has maintained buckles and added leather... Now if he'd just shift over to the Dark Side again, I'd be happy. The bracers are also a nice throwback to his days in th'dungeon. My only complaint is the overall LACK of leather trousers (same goes for Guy) and the cloak.
They all need good plots! Except Robin. And Tuck.
I'm hoping they don't spend so much time playing with the new formula that the old ingredients are left on the shelf. *jingles bell on bobble hat of sparkly optimism*
