Fucking Air Canada

The flights for my parents to come for Christmas tomorrow have been cancelled. As has my sister's flight the following week. As have all their flights home.

Fuck.

Doing an emergency search to find alternates - looks like Continental has something through Newark that won't kill the bank.

Christmas can only go up from here.

The best bit? Nobody has told any of the passengers! Oh, Heathrow is going to be a non-fun place to be tomorrow when 200 passengers turn up for a flight that was cancelled days ago.

We found another flight, phew! It's a day later than planned (and a bit more expensive) with a stop in Newark, but it's a flight and it gets here so that's the important bit.

That's all a touch unfortunate. In a similar way that accidents with running chainsaws are almost always trivial and painless, if you ignore the whole chopping off of fingers issue for example.

If the airline cancelled the flight, they should be the ones who reschedule for you. Call the airlines and find out how *they* are going to fix this.

They called the airline. They have no other seats on any flights, sorry.

But we found something with a different airline that only gets them here a day later than planned.

Are they cancelled for weather issues? If so, you definitely should talk to the airline. If it's for another reason, they might not do much about it (we were delayed 36 hours on our honeymoon flight to Paris for "mechanical problems", which is apparently well within their rights.) Best of luck!

They are cancelled for unspecified issues and the airline knew about it several days ago *sigh* They have no other flights to offer, so tough was the basic message.

Thankfully we found them seats on a long flight with a long stoppage, but they'll get here eventually.

That really sounds crap from Air Canada. When Air France's flight back from Shanghai last year was cancelled, Air France put me up for a night in a hotel and booked me on Virgin for the following day, and upgraded me from economy to first to compensate.

It seems to be more like crap from BMI, who sold them the seats on the Air Canada flight and don't seem to care at all about the fact that the flight is no longer going. We've booked through BMI (it saves a little bit of money usually) before without any issues.

From what we can work out, Air Canada changed their schedules at the beginning of the month and reduced the number of flights it does each week. The big question is why BMI didn't bother to inform any customers of the cancellation. The other big question is why Air Canada has reduced the flights on a popular route at the busiest time of year.

BMI's response to being asked what they planned to do was 'nothing'. Air Canada offered them silly flights for a ridiculous price that still wouldn't have had them here for Christmas. Nobody is taking ownership of this *sigh* Hopefully they'll get their money back - bmi seemed surprised that they'd want a refund.

Yup, looking at when Air Canada changed their routes they've known for at least a fortnight. And didn't tell us. The Air Canada desk at Heathrow must be a nightmare right now with angry passengers turning up every day to find out their flight is no longer there.
