Recommendation needed - FTP software

I'm getting my new computer set up and I don't have the original .exe install file for the FTP program that I used to use (AceFTP Pro) to update my websites. I've done some Googling and AceFTP Pro hasn't been updated for several years, so I'm not sure how well it would work on Vista.

Does anyone have a rec for a good (preferably cheap or free) program for FTP-ing?

And if anyone has a rec for a good website editor (I'm a hand-coder) that would also be great. I've been using HTMLPad on my old machine, but I'm open to other suggestions if anyone knows a program that they love to bits.

I've just spent the evening watching the Olympic closing ceremony while copying the data from my old machine to my new machine. At least that rather boring task had the distractions of amazing fireworks, beautifully choreographed dances and gymnastics, and the rather embarrassing Boris Johnson attempting to wave a flag and somewhat failing.

Despite all the questions over China's ethics, there is no way that London will match - never mind beat! - the opening and closing ceremonies.

Right, time for bed and a proper update tomorrow. Important stuff: got the car and I've been driving this weekend :-)

Try either WinSCP or ws_ftp32. They're both nicely stable and free! :-)

I use Fire FTP (firefox add-on) and it seems to work fine.

Oh, and ximeria put me onto Stone's Webwriter, which is a great little program for html editing. And free for personal use!

Ooh, thank you! I've downloaded the Firefox extension to play with for now - I had no idea there was one!

I asked for FTP recs ages ago and ended up using FileZilla. The only fault I have with it is that it doesn't make a noise when you've uploaded something, so you have to keep half an eye on it. The other rec I got at the time was CuteFTP, although I don't remember why I chose FileZilla over it.

For web coding stuff I use NVU. It's good in that it has a tab for WYSIWYG, a tab showing the tags, a tab for previewing it and a tab for editing the source.

NVU doesn't look to have been updated since 2005 - do you know whether it would work with Vista?

Since I go for the if it ain't broke don't fix it option with upgrading, I had no idea NVU was that old. I don't know if it does work with Vista, I don't have access to any computers with Vista on. And I don't really know what sort of programs Vista does & doesn't like. Only thing I can suggest is to download it and see.
