Convention report - Friday
Nov. 14th, 2004 07:47 pmA quick Friday recap...
SG-8 proper was starting with a Welcome Party for the first 200 tickets (darn, ticket number 244 here) followed by a disco for everyone. This left most of Friday free with no travelling or hotel probs, so
paranoidangel42 and I had planned to sleep in as late as possible so that we were well rested for a hectic weekend. That was the plan...
The telephone scuppered that plan by ringing just after 9am. Grrr. It just rang once and there was no one at the other end, but PA and I had been properly woken up by that. So we decided to get breakfast instead. Flung on some clothes and wandered along to the dining room where we ate a large cooked breakfast (I didn't know that I could eat that much before noon) and worked out a plan for the day. Mostly our plan involved sitting around with newspapers and magazines :-) The lovely
sazzle_02, aided by the wonderful
yragg, made a supermarket run and picked up stuff for PA and I so that we could make sandwiches and snacks over the weekend. Thanks, guys! Lunch was ala MacD's and the afternoon was also lazy. For the first time in weeks, I sat around doing very little without feeling guilty. Bliss :-)
Kate and Beth, our giggling fellow evil-doers, arrived just after 6pm. At that point, PA and I remembered that we needed to get vouchers for the breakfast sittings over the weekend. We'd planned to get the nice, sane sitting of 7.30am. We ended up with 6.3am :-( Mental note: bug hotel for vouchers earlier next year :-)
terrylbirch arrived a little after seven for drinks with us all and we met up with the rest of the gang for another night of gossip, drinking, slash discussion and bizarre mishearings. No, I don't know why I seriously thought that Beth was talking about dead lions as something to take care of before she left for the con...
Kate, Beth and PA made it into the disco for a few minutes, but that was the closest we came to attending official con events that evening. I flattened Teryl's helper behind a bathroom door and got insanely shy when I realised that Teryl had claimed a small armchair in one corner (of the powder room type bit, not the stalls!) to hold court. She said some very nice things to me and I managed to babble "Thank you" before escaping. I'm sure that I turned bright red and clashed with my hair...
We all crawled off to our various rooms at around 1am, T got a spot on G and Saz's floor for the night, and the con had officially started :-)
