Today has been insane. Meetings all morning, lunch break, another long meeting and then I had to do an interview before I finally got released from the bedlam. My brain has gone kaplooey.
Yesterday was also a nightmare, but for different reasons. The Minion has work on Tuesdays that has a deadline of 4pm. Now, lately, the other stuff that goes out with it hasn't been ready at that stage but I like to have our contribution ready to go because then we can leave and the other girl sends everything out when it's ready. At least we don't hold her up if her stuff is also miraculously ready to go at 4pm.
The work could quite easily be done by 10am with maybe ten minutes of work later in the day when a final number is agreed. There is nothing stopping the bulk being done by 10am if one actually starts doing it. Over the last three weeks the Minion has been starting the work in a timely manner without any prompting from me. Before that he didn't remember it until I prompted him, usually at 3.30pm because I shouldn't have to play nanny to a grown man. So yesterday I assumed that he was getting on and finishing it all off as he seemed to be getting into the habit of doing.
Um.
At 3.45pm I asked him for a print of that work that I thought was finished. "Yeah, I should do that, shouldn't I?"
GGGRRRRAAAAAGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
Hence it was nearly 6pm before he finished and allowed me to go home and 8pm before I finally crawled in my front door.
Today I didn't even have time to read my emails never mind write any. Tomorrow I am emailing the Minion with a carefully worded suggestion that he block out two hours in his calendar every Tuesday morning to do this work, with reminders and a reminder to call the guy with the final number later in the day. Because he didn't call for the final number, didn't do it when I reminded him and the guy was on his way out of the door when I admitted defeat and called him myself. No number would have caused us a huge number of rows so I'm glad I didn't leave it another 10 minutes, but should I really have to ride herd on the Minion like this?
The Minion and I need to have words. What the hell will he do when I leave?

My suspicion is he won't do anything different. His new manager will start tearing hair out though...
