Safe and sound at work
Mar. 10th, 2008 09:43 amThe weather here is as foul as the forecasters promised. Between high winds,
heavy rain and spray the motorway was scary and yuck but at least I got to
work unscathed. I didn't even get stuck in traffic, which I'd half expected.
Thankfully there were far fewer lorries out there than usual so obviously
some haulage companies saw sense and decided not to make a bad situation
worse by sending out trucks that the wind could blow over.
The hardest part was keeping my car pointing in the right direction when the
wind kept trying to pull the wheel out of my grip. And keeping it going
forward when the road changed direction and I suddenly found myself heading
straight into the wind.
I'm really hoping that the weather has died down a bit by the time I have to
go home. The winner of the morning's biggest frustration goes to the
motorway matrix people. Now, in weather like this I'm expecting any messages
on the matrix to relate to the conditions or warnings about closures ahead.
Everyone else seemed to feel the same way so we all slowed down at one
matrix where visibility was just about zero so that we could read it . . .
only to find that the matrix was in fact warning about a weekend closue on a
different motorway. Grrr.
My neck is still not right and this morning it's feeling really quite stiff,
which is different from the pinched nerve sensation (still present at the
end of movements) but equally annoying. I am currently wearing my fluffy
Canada scarf to keep my neck warm and that seems to be helping a little, but
it's still going to get very old by the end of the day. On the up side, it's
less than two weeks until Eastercon :-)

Date: 2008-03-10 07:28 pm (UTC)On the up side, I left at my official finishing time rather than an hour later so even with the rain and wind, I didn't get home any later than normal. I shouldn't complain. I really shouldn't.
That weather thingy sounds rather annoying! Potentially useful if you live in a boat...but still annoying.
