Things to do before I emigrate to Canada
Jan. 7th, 2008 07:22 pmNow that I can officially say that the move is happening this year (early August, for those who have missed the billion references to the date) I've started a list of things that I want to accomplish before I leave the country. I thought that it might be a good idea to a) list them here and b) post an account of the event when I do it. I shall try to tag everything connected to this under a "to do in england" tag for those who want to follow along.
And so, the list of what I want to accomplish in my remaining months as a UK citizen:
1. Take tea at Claridges.
2. Go on the London Eye.
3. Climb Snowdon.
4. Visit Bletchley Park.
5. Visit the British Libary.
6. Go to see Cats at my local theatre.
7. Visit the Natural History museum and walk past the bloody huge dinosaur in the lobby without a blind-fold.
8. Eat dim sum in Chinatown.
9. Watch a session of the Commons.
10. Compete in an archery tournament.
11. Visit Cambridge.
12. Climb the Camera Obscura in Oxford.
13. Get together with convention/fandom friends.
14. Visit
historyterry (preferably more than once).
15. Visit York Minster and the Shambles.
16. Visit London Zoo.
This list may be edited, updated and added to as time goes by, but I think that's a good start for the just over seven months that I have. Obviously, feel free to throw more suggestions at me if you have any and I'll see what I can fit in...

Date: 2008-01-08 09:49 am (UTC)I googled for camera obscura oxford (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=camera+obscura+oxford), and it didn't know anything particularly informative.
I suspect it ought to be the Radcliffe Camera (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radcliffe_Camera). It's not open to the public though: you need an Bod Card (Oxford University Library Card) to get in. Or whatever the contempary equivalent is.

Date: 2008-01-07 11:44 pm (UTC)My parents came to Canada from England in August 1978. They've never regretted a day of it (and my dad won't even go back to visit anymore.) Good luck!

Date: 2008-01-08 04:09 pm (UTC)I know that going to Canada is definitely the right thing to do. It's scary, but also exciting and I just have to reassure myself that seven months is long enough to do everthing without getting overly confident about how much time I have before I need to do things like organising a removals firm.
