Holiday: Day Two (and Doctor Who special)
Nov. 18th, 2007 05:41 pmI am on the second day of my week of holiday. Yay! I'm not actually going anywhere, but a week away from work is absolute heaven. I haven't had more than two days (plus weekend) away from work at once for...er...around a year. It's scary when I add that up! So I'm determined to relax and enjoy the break. After the last few weeks of hard work, long hours and frantic rushing around it's a welcome break indeed.
Theoretically I plan to spend a lot of this week writing. I'm starting that tomorrow: this weekend is just rest and recuperation time. Yesterday I slept in, had a long walk through the woods with Mum (stopping at a pub for a sandwich and a drink along the way) and spent most of the afternoon reading. Today I've had a short walk, spent most of the afternoon watching films with the parents and will probably spend most of the evening reading or watching TV.
There's a part of my brain that keeps insisting that I'm wasting time, I'll be back at work tomorrow and I haven't used my weekend for anything useful yet (i.e. writing). My brain hasn't quite caught up with the no work for a week concept yet. Heh.
However, my brain is merrily working away at Sensible Man so when I pull out the manuscript tomorrow I sense that it's going to a productive session. In fact, I'm damned determined to make this a productive week as well as an enjoyable one.
For those concerned that I haven't replied to texts and voice mails, I discovered half an hour ago that my phone has been playing silly buggers and unregistered the SIM. Rebooted the phone, SIM re-registered and messages flooded in. Hmmm. I shall attempt to reply to stuff tonight and then curl up with my book again.
I love holidays :-)
Also, am I crazy to suddenly find myself with the biggest crush on Maddy in Holby City? And where can I find icons?
If anyone wants to squee about the Children in Need Doctor Who special, spoilers are behind the cut and possibly in the comments.
I knew that it was going to be good when I saw Stephen Moffat on the credits and it totally lived up to that :-) I adored it to itty bitty pieces. Fitting it into canon and finding a reason for Peter Davison to look older than "our" Fifth Doctor was something that I thought would be impossible but apparently isn't. He even managed to work in a reason why the Titanic could crash into the TARDIS.
The best bit, by far, was Ten's speech to Five. It came from the heart. I remember reading something about Peter Davison being David Tennant's Doctor and that just made it better. It was a beautiful speech, sitting perfectly with the way that Doctor Who is written now but also fitting into the way that the classic series could sometimes be written.
The Doctor Who love is strong at the moment *g*
