I was playing around, adding a few bits and bobs to my Amazon wishlist, and it's come to my attention that I have rather a lot of, um, expensive box-sets on it. And three quarters of them are Doctor Who-related box-sets. Huh.

I need to hunt down some less expensive ideas for the 99% of people who know me who aren't earning the profits from a Fortune 500 company.

Also, it's possible that my DVD rental list is longer than the months that I actually have left in this country to watch it. Oops.

It's looking like the weekend of 4th August 2008 is when I officially stop being a British resident. It's both exciting and totally terrifying.

In completely unrelated news, there will be no election in Canada yet. Woe. I will have to actually live under the Conservative government for a time.

I was musing on the way home about how I used to have great, funny work tales. They had actual characters like Nutty Colleague. Now all I have is geek-outs and plotting with the data warehouse guys to put Go Faster stripes on servers. My work tales no longer have fun characters. Admittedly, my entire company is a character (an evil, conniving character with the common sense of your average tea strainer) but the people don't have that OTT-ness that makes them great characters for stories. Although the IT helpdesk does verge into that territory.

Da Boss it the only regular 'character' in my stories and he is, to quote [livejournal.com profile] historyterry, "a nob". One with a sad lack of personality. And certainly nothing in comparison to Nutty Colleague of yore.

I miss the days of major characters for my work stories. Geek-outs are good fun, too, but less entertaining for others to read.

So, what we need to know is "when the Sel send off party" and "from when will Sel be accepting visitors"? :-)

Yay for you!

Hi, hon.

Yes, good point on the Christmas list thingy. I'll be placing a very low ceiling on what I can afford this year. I'd like to say that I'll make presents instead, but I'm not sure I'll have the time to make a good job of that, either.

4th August 2008? That time will fly by. Hopefully, I can get to see you before Greece, and again when I graduate, but man, that's going to roll around fast.

BTW - so nice to be quoted! G nearly spat out his coffee at that one!

Hope things are going alright for you this week. Nothing wrong with geek-outs!

Speak soon.

Txx

Of course, the other major milestone will be when you move the contents of your wishlist from amazon.co.uk to .ca :-)
