For the next week, I am actually on holiday. No work for an entire week. It's going to be bliss. Hopefully a week of relaxation will get the stonking headaches/migraines (three last week and I've got one brewing right now *sigh*) to back off a bit.
Mum and I decided not to have a staycation, on the basis that we'd end up finding lots of chores and errands to run and I wouldn't feel rested at the end. So we're going to a B&B down the coast from Tuesday to Friday, which offers gourmet breakfasts in the morning and homebaked cookies and freshly squeezed lemonade in the afternoon.
We're also taking a recipe book that we bought a while ago, which is filled with recipes from various restaurants and cafes around the area and we'll be using that as our guidebook for where we'll eat while we're away.
I can feel my waistline expanding already :-D
My only real dilemma is what to put on my Kindle. It's autumn now (temps below 10C at night! Wow!) and that always seems to get me reading lovely English murder mysteries. I'm definitely putting a few Miss Marple books (Agatha Christie) on, because I adore them and they are perfect comfort reading. I'm reading the first Inspector Lynley book (Elizabeth George) and thoroughly enjoying it, so I may grab the second. And I might also grab the first Wexford (Ruth Rendell) book as well.
Yes, I love cozy English mysteries. It's a problem, I know, but I see no need to stop yet :-)
I got the first Shopaholic book stupidly cheap when I first got my Kindle (has it really only been four weeks? how time flies!) and read it last weekend. It's the first time I've read any chic-lit. I'm slightly ashamed to admit that I loved it. Looks like the 'shame shame shame' tag now has another thing to signal! I may have to get Shopaholic Takes Manhatten...
The Inn we're staying in has free WiFi, so I'll be able to grab the Independent on my Kindle if I judge that I'll have time to read it. Also, Asimov's has a Kindle version so I may pop the current issue onto my little love to read while I'm away. It would be the kind of thing that grown up sci-fi fans do, right? Read short stories etc.?
Maybe I'll also slip a dead tree book into my bag as well, seeing as I have unread Chalet School books lying around...
Er, I do plan to do things other than read. Promise!
