Observations
Oct. 11th, 2004 10:44 pmColds are evil. More of a fact than an observation, but...
The worst of it is over. Got lingering snuffles, sneezes and earache, but the really icky stage is over and I should be OK for Wednesday. I'll just have to take plenty of tissues and cough really, really quietly because invigilators don't like coughers in exams. Have booked myself in for a flu vaccine at the end of the month.
Da had a boggle moment yesterday. Mom was teasing me about the Lois McMaster Bujold obsession (yup, I'm determined to read everything she's ever read because it's so fun to find a new author that I adore) and Da wanted to know what the books are about.
Mom: They're sci-fi.
Me: ::nods::
Da: Sci-fi? Really?
Me: Yup.
Da: Not scientific fantasy?
Me: Nope. There's spaceships and stunners and everything. *Real* sci-fi.
Da: ::boggles::
Looks like I've really got a rep for loving the fantasy. Da and I are both sci-fi/fantasy fans, but he leans towards SF in his reading while I lean (er, heavily) towards fantasy. Apart from an incredibly lame first chapter that never went anywhere, all my original fic ideas have been fantasy. Writing SG fic is quite a departure for me, with the science and the guns and the no magic and stuff. Da's ::boggle:: expression when he realised it was god honest sci-fi was rather comical :-)
Observation 2: George W. Bush makes me yell at the TV screen in complete frustrated rage.
Observation 3: I am a politics geek. Yes, I did video the debate on Friday (shown at 2am in England) to watch on Saturday. Damn, I can't wait until our election :-)
Observation 4: Spooks is incredibly cool. Yes, the new season debuted tonight and I was completely sucked in again. How long until the next episode?
Observation 5: Why do the American insist on renaming Spooks to MI5?
That last one was more of a question than an observation :-)
