Shaken, but OK
Mar. 12th, 2007 08:53 amOf all the ways there are to start a Monday, being rear-ended on a motorway doesn't rank high on the list.
*sigh*
I'm OK, Sarah-Jane looks OK apart from a cracked registration plate and the other driver stopped so that we could exchange details. I'm just rather shaken up by the whole thing, although I have at least stopped physically shaking!
Not a fun start to the morning.
I'll report it to the insurance company, get it assessed, but I doubt it's going to need much more than a replaced reg plate. We weren't exactly going anywhere fast this morning.
To add to those delights, a core table in our data warehouse is currently missing the weekend's data and we were the first people to spot it. The IT guys apparently spotted that some other tables that feed off that core one were wrong and have been refreshing them in an attempt to get the correct data. Except none of them thought to check the core table. Very smart. So we are currently waiting for them to tell us when they'll have it fixed now that we've drawn their attention to it.
I have so much faith in our IT guys. Not.
Is it time to go home yet? Is it too early to pig out on chocolate? Can I curl up in a corner and cry for a while?
I did manage to do college work over the weekend, meet
historyterry for coffee and get the
femslash07 fic ready for posting. So it was a good weekend. Particularly if you're an England rugby fan :-)

Date: 2007-03-12 10:52 am (UTC)I'd love to have a quiet day, but work doesn't seem to be agreeing with that concept. So I'm going to drink tea and try to resist the urge to hide under my desk :-)
Thanks for the hugs.

Date: 2007-03-12 01:15 pm (UTC)My previous car was called Baby and I wanted something a little more kick-ass, yet feminine for this one. Sarah-Jane seem the obvious choice :-) Cars with good names, in my experience, run much better than cars with bad names.

Date: 2007-03-12 02:37 pm (UTC)1. Had no name. I didn't own it for long enough to have a name. My sister smashed into someone, someone reversed into me while I was in it and finally it was stolen. All in the course of six months.
2. Was called Lolly by my sister. It randomly didn't start, requiring fiddling with the fuse-board to get the loose-connection in the ignition to unloosen. And had certain gears it didn't like. Eventually the mechanic advised me to sell it to some poor unsuspecting bugger before it totally conked because it wasn't worth repairing.
I've become supersticious about naming my cars :-) My computers, however, have never had names except "You Bastard".

Date: 2007-03-12 04:02 pm (UTC)While my PCs, PDAs, smartphones etc have probably all been addressed that way or similarly at some point, I've still had to give them unique names for networking purposes. That said, my naming scheme tends to be mythical monsters of some sort e.g. Leviathan, Behemoth, Golem, Kraken, Gorgon etc... :-)

Date: 2007-03-12 12:44 pm (UTC)... also, in several rear end shunts over the years, it's always worth checking to make sure the boot/hatch/whatever you've got at the back opens and shuts again properly (unless it's a *really* minor bump!) as I've thought things weren't too bad, and then discovered the bootlid or hatch wouldn't actually lock again ...
... the worst was a big American car (I was living in Big America then!) and the fuel filler was behind the rear number plate (no really, it was on a spring loaded hinge) and the rear end bump looked minor until I had to put fuel in (when the car was very nearly out) and discovered the number plate mechanism was jammed (so no fuel, aiiieeeee!)
Gentle stretching, warm sweet tea, and my best wishes to Sarah Jane (and you)

Date: 2007-03-12 01:21 pm (UTC)I've been drinking tea, I bought some snacky things for the canteen (most unusual to me) and I'm feeling fine. Even my neck seems...er...no worse than usual :-) Sarah-Jane will be getting a thorough inspection when I get home and hopefully she won't need too much help to feel better.

Date: 2007-03-12 01:46 pm (UTC)*hugs* Any hitting of cars with any other cars is not nice. But sugar is good for the shock, though, so you are totally justified in eating lots of chocolate :)

Date: 2007-03-12 02:33 pm (UTC)The funny thing is that everyone I know has been rear-ending people lately, except me. I did things the other way around :-)
How is America? {{hugs}}

Date: 2007-03-12 10:43 pm (UTC)American :) Washington I liked, New York is really busy, though, and because all the buildings are so tall you can't see that much. Not that there's that much to see apart from buildings. But Washington was quite pretty. I'm looking forward to going home, though, because the American accents are annoying me, and I need some normality back!
I would post on my LJ but handily, the server's been up and down, and down everytime I have time to post anything.

Yes, LJ does seem to have been having problems over the last few days. Hopefully you'll be able to post a good report when you get back :-)

Date: 2007-03-13 10:46 am (UTC)I didn't pig out much yesterday. Just had a couple of pieces. But I did eat a few squares of Green and Black's Maya Gold last night as a treat :-)) I require really, really good chocolate. Or Cadbury's Mini Eggs.
