Ferries, banks and sushi
Oct. 11th, 2006 06:54 pmToday was spent over the harbour in Halifax, which meant taking the ferry over. This is something that I love doing and I'm hoping that when I get a job over here it will be in a location that allows me to take the ferry over every day. You get a great view of the city, fresh air if you want it and it's probably the most regular (and unlikely to be held up by traffic) form of transport around. Plus there is a Tim Hortons at either end so my morning boost of caffiene would be sorted *g*
The bank account was amazingly easy to set up, mainly because I already bank with them in England. That made the process much easier. I'd gone with half a dozen forms of ID (just in case, you know) but the one that I didn't realise would be important was my banking card from the UK. In fact, I only had that with me in case I need to get some cash at the airport on the way home for the taxi. If anyone is considering a move over here from the UK and wants to know which bank this was, comment with your e-addy or use my email if you've got it and I'll let you know who it was. It means that I'll have somewhere to send my money to when I do the move and gets me one step closer to my emmigration.
Of course, there was also the trip to I Love Sushi for lunch. This is a place that my sister discovered when she was on a university exchange here but I have never managed to go to because it's closed on a Monday. Which is usually when I end up in the city. So I usually go to Momoya instead, which is very good. But I've wanted to try I Love Sushi. It's really very good, with options that include very affordable lunch specials. If you're curious about sushi but don't want to take the plunge too far, the Bento Boxes are to be recommended. And the food is genuinely good, even if Momoya might have slightly more variety in terms of the types of fish they serve.
The rescued kitten is quite happy in his new home and eating well. He's graduated to soft food and is quite the gobbler. I'll grab some photos of him if I can for posting later.
Tomorrow I start my travels around, visiting various spots in New Brunswick before driving back down to Halifax. I'll be gone until Wednesday and I'm unlikely to have any Internet access. I'll post again when I can. Because we're going travelling, it's decided to rain from tomorrow so our tradition of only getting good weather in Halifax continues *g*

Date: 2006-10-12 07:32 pm (UTC)Wow! Amazing that it was so easy, knowing the hoops banks want potential customers to jump through to open accounts over here these days.
