A little mid-week bibbling around
Aug. 30th, 2006 09:46 amSo far, this week hasn't been too bad despite my expectation of chaos and confusion. The worst that's happened is that data keeps disappearing from the data warehouse, but IT are apparently "on to it". Uh-huh.
Mother returned from Italy and has been overflowing with tales and descriptions. Hopefully we'll get to see her photos soon, but I'm already starting to get a great picture of what they saw from what she's told me.
Da and I also received presents because we had to stay home. He got a calendar with pictures of illustrated manuscrips (very nice) and I got a beautiful purple pashmina made in Florence. Not entirely sure what I do with a pashmina, but it's absolutely gorgeous and very soft so I'm sure that I'll be working it out quickly so that I can show it off.
I am considering changing my journal style to one of the new Expressive styles that have been added. But, y'know, I don't want to lose the settings for this journal style in case I don't like the new one. Anyone know how I can export the style without having to do a manual copying out the settings on a scrap of paper job?
And has any of my lovely f-list played with the Expressive styles? Thoughts? Pros? Glitches?

I still haven't got round to even looking to see what these new styles are.

Date: 2006-08-30 01:08 pm (UTC)If there isn't an easier shortcut then that's what I may do. Alternatively I may copy screen prints into a Word document so that I have an electronic backup in case I lose the printout.

Some of them look pretty nice. I've been thinking about getting a layout that's got black text on white, but turning this layout monochrome would probably look pretty ugly. Soeme of the new styles are pretty nice and apparently specifically designed to be easier to manipulate with CSS. My only concern is losing some of the features that I like in this layout - like tags, links in the side bar and a calendar. The new layout has more side bar modules but the previews are too small to reall see what the side bar modules are and whether I'll want any of them.
Wow, thtat turned into more of a babble than intended.

Date: 2006-08-30 05:31 pm (UTC)I discovered why I haven't looked at this new style - because it's for paid account users only! I thought it was but then got confused because lots of people keep talking about it.

Date: 2006-08-30 08:11 pm (UTC)The Expressive layouts are much nicer than any of the other layouts I've seen. There were quite a few that I was tempted towards so I could be testing out a couple of them if I get bored with monochrome. However, this monochrome is much more stylish than other ones :-)
Hmm, I may also be hidding out the tag cloud. I'll see how much it annoys me over the next couple of days.
I do like the fact that the comments form appears under the previous replies so that I can check back to what I said earlier and, er, which icon I used.

Date: 2006-08-30 08:18 pm (UTC)That is quite pretty. The blue of the tags etc and your icons are a nice splash of colour. The grey of some of the links are a bit too close to white on my computer though.

On my resolution you only have about 6 tags, the rest are too small to be readable :)

Does it not do that normally?

On my old layout, the reply button took you to a new page with only the comment that you were replying to rather than continuing to show all the comments and the original post. This is much swisher :-)

Date: 2006-08-31 01:55 pm (UTC)I noticed that you're also having problems with the menus on the reviews site - is that still an issue? I'm running Firefox at home and haven't had any problems.

I hadn't checked actually, but just had a look and it is still not working. Although the blue version of the menu works fine :)
I remembered that I accidentally upgraded my Firefox from a perfectly working version, so I might now be running a less perfectly working version, which could be it.
