Due to mother's current absence on a mother-daughter bonding trip with my sister in Italy, I am fending for myself this week. This means that I'm having to commit cookery.

I have three recipes that I can reliably cook, and I'm not sure that cooking sausages is allowed to be called a recipe.

So I have done the scary thing of trying new recipes. I'd like to point out that I used to be a fairly good cook, but lack of practice has made me wary of the concept. But I braved it all, bought ingredients and today attempted crispy duck in a honey and spice glaze.

The amazing part?

It was actually rather good. The duck was properly crispy on the skin and tender inside. And the glaze tasted really, really yummy. Served with carrots and pan-fried spinach, for balance and health.

If I'm still alive tomorrow, we can call this one a success ::is proud::

One of my friends at uni had a theory - you are immune to your own cooking :)

I'm not sure that cooking sausages is allowed to be called a recipe

I never cook recipes, but sausages definitely counts as cooking - I mean it involves heating things up and trying to decide when they're not going to kill you but aren't burnt!

With my intolerances cooking is quite simple because it mostly involves meat, veg and potatoes with nothing exciting going on (which is how I like it, so that's fine)

Veggies should crunch when eaten :-)

Ooh no. I hate it when I eat out and have cauliflower because I like cauliflower but not when it's crunchy.

(The exception to this rule is carrots, which should be crunchy because they should never be cooked).

I get laughed at by my more cooking savvy familiy members when I describe cooking sausages as cooking.

My mum would describe that as cooking as well and my dad fails at putting a pizza on a tray. My sister's the most inventive cooker - me & mum can't be bothered (dad doesn't have to, he lives with mum).

You probably couldn't have had the thing that I cooked last night because of the spices

I'm only intolerant to a few herbs and spices (and allergic to one). But the only one I really like, in small quantities, in ginger. Which I can't have.

I like things with lots of taste and trying new things

There's lots of different types of dairy free chocolate with slightly differing tastes... :)
