Question for the geeks
Jul. 11th, 2006 08:57 pmCan anyone recommend a good RSS reader? I've been using the built-in facilities in Thunderbird for over a year and it's just right for me, but Da is wanting to experiment with getting RSS feeds and isn't really sure where to start with a stand-alone app. To be honest, I'm not either. He has to use Outlook for his mail (work thing) so swapping to Thunderbird isn't an option. Something that he can install as a stand-alone app, preferably that will just log in and pick up feeds regularly without him needing to remind it, would be ideal.
I fall on the mercy and intelligence of my f-list to suggest some things.

Date: 2006-07-11 09:16 pm (UTC)RSS Bandit certainly checks regularly - you can choose how often. You can also choose how long to keep your feeds for, you can organise them in folders and it has a built in tabbed web browser for any feeds that are titles only, or partial (or you can tell it to use your own browser.
It probably does whole loads more things that I've never used :)
Only thing it can't seem to cope with is feeds with funny characters in there somewhere (don't know what characters exactly) but it puts them in an errors folder until the post it doesn't like has dropped off the bottom, then you suddenly get a big update!
