A photography moment

A couple of weeks ago, I went walking in our local woods with the parents because the rhododendrons were out and we (er, I) like to use them in photography. Tomorrow is Da's birthday and rather than buying a tacky card with crappy, over-sentimental poems and no design sense, I've taken to making cards for people from photographs that I've taken. They generally look better and it's a way to be a little more thoughtful for them.

I used one of the photos from the rhodos walk and I'm actually rather pleased with it. The photo, that is. The card has added typography to make it seasonally appropriate. You should be able to click the image below to see a bigger version of the photo :-)



My accidental camera purchase has turned out to be a fantastic investment.

Doctor Who starts in twenty minutes and I still have written my reviews of The Impossible Planet or The Satan Pit. Bad Sel :-)

It's the bud from a rhododendron and it stood out for me because it was a little different from the ones we usually see. Generally, the rhodies here have lots of buds in a kind of cone - they look almost as though they're made from tissue paper when they're all furled up. This bush had buds that were more individual.

The photo stood out because I'd managed to get the focusing right, with the one bud standing out and others forming a blurred pink background. But it was a little different fron its neighbours.

Thanks for hte link. I think that most of our rhodies don't look too different from yours - they're actually an imported species - but it's interesting to see the differences :-) They're regarded as a bit of a pest because they have no natural predators and tend to take over the areas they seed, but I must be an odd, vulgar sort of girl because I think they're really very pretty :-)

Are you sure it's a rhodie species? Their petals aren't tapered but curly-edged and open. Only at night do they close. The Rhodies I know about are bushes with very thick trunks, sturdy narrow leaves, and a multi-flowered stem end. The plant you described acts more like Scotch Broom, which spreads its spores. A rhodie can't do that. It needs to be grown and planted, so I'm very confused. Hmmmm.
